Fair enough, but when one reads:

"How miserable of a person do you have to be to come to the casino on a holiday and consistently stiff the dealers, who would otherwise be at home spending time with their families if not for the people who find it absolutely necessary to play poker on a holiday"

I'm certain the first holiday that comes to mind in most everyone's mind wouldn't be July 4th. July 4th celebration is about on par with a birthday celebration.

If anyone stiffs me on my birthday they will endure 12 months of cold decks whenever they sit at my table. And if they manage to somehow suck out a win on the river I'll double rake the pot.

When it's your birthday and you're in the box, do you casually like to mention it's your birthday? Something along the lines of, "... yeah, in fact I'll be going to that restaurant tonight. My wife is taking me there for my birthday."

I mean, people like to tell you it's their birthday all the time just for a few words of acknowledgement, might as well try to grease out some tips from it if you're a dealer, no?

I'm sorry for being one of those guys that HAD to play poker on a random, unimportant Wednesday.

I don't stiff though so maybe it's okay.

Thanksgiving. Christmas. Super Bowl.

These are days where people with friends and family tend to get together, to enjoy each other's company. Misfits who don't get along with other people don't do this. There are plenty of misfit poker players, and they all seem to find the cardroom on these days. The Misfit Ratio is WAY up in the casino on these days.

Memorial Day and Labor Day see the same thing, to a lesser extent.

Normally, I would put July 4th in this latter category--but this year, it was in the former. A *LOT* of our biggest misfits showed up this year, AND a lot of the more "normal" people did not. The Misfit Ratio was at Threat Level Orange.

EDIT TO ADD: I'm not talking about the folks who go to the casino at NIGHT on those days, who have spent all day with their families, and are looking for a break from it. I mean the morning/afternoon crowd. The saddest place in America is a casino on Christmas morning.

Maybe those misfits sense this from you and tip accordingly?

I go to the casino on those holidays because I'm off work and my family lives too far away to visit. I thank every dealer that deals to me on those days for being there. They are my family for the day. I'd hate to think they resent me for being there.

I don't resent someone for coming to the casino on a holiday, I just get upset at the people who knowingly stiff the dealers specifically on those days. Is it impossible in your miserable life to have a shred of empathy towards anyone? Let your anti-tip culture take a backseat for a day FFS and realize that these dealers are human beings who make a living off of tips, and who are also unfortunate that their industry takes no off days so they oftentimes are stuck working on holidays. My original comment wasn't complaining about having to work on holidays, or about non-tippers, it was simply questioning how miserable those people who non-tip on holidays must be.

Im primarily a cash game player but the few times a year I find myself in a donkament I reflexively try to toss the dealer a low denomination tourney chip when I drag a pot. Does anyone else have to fight this reflex? It feels so unnatural like not buckling my seatbelt or something.

I actually did this and the Dealer was stunned ... but certainly didn't return the chip either. They called the Floor and the chip was promptly taken to the pool box where all tournament tips are supposed to accumulate and be redistributed accordingly. GL

Does the dealer get to deal himself in at that point? All in for his ante?

Just hold on to it in case there's an ICM chop!

I do it intentionally for comedic value.

(Thin value obv. Probable value cut actually.)

A dollar minimum. Anything over that is generous, and would be appreciated, but not necessary.

Bigger pots tend to take longer in the smaller games, so if these hands were at 1/2 and there was lots of tanking, $2-5 depending on how generous you want to be. $5 is going to be a mental fist pump for the dealer and $1 is going to be a silent "wish the pro didn't win that one" moment but it'll still be appreciated.

A tournament chip was knowingly put in the tip box? Non-value?

No .. It was a cash value chip I had in my pocket, red bird, for almost tripling my tournament stack during the down.

It was first kept in the tray and then transferred to the tournament tip box at some point after. GL

Ah...context was confusing because it was in response to someone almost toking with a low-denomination tournament chip.

I've often thought about having a bunch of whites in my pocket if I ever play a tournament for tokes on bigger hands. Obviously very uncommon as I've never seen anyone do it.
