The SugarHouse Hype Thread - where you get berated for asking about the room but a conversation about super heroes is ok...

Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing what you put together here, Raye. Will definitely stop by to check out the room when it does open and appreciate the bigger buyins for nl games.

We were asked to first introduce ourselves not needing to tell the panel about anything on our resume as they knew all about us and that we were all qualified to be there. They wanted energy and happy happy fun info about ourselves. They had asked us to put a super hero name that we aspired to be like or to invent one and explain why it was chosen. After all of the introductions we were divided into 2 groups. Each group then picked a piece of paper out of a box with a word on it. Each group had to use their word chosen in a song that had to be sung out loud in front of the panel. Then we had to repeat the process using the same same word but singing a different song. After this, each candidate picked a slip of paper from the HR hostess each one had a question on it that needed to be answered. Example: If you were the star of a movie what movie and why? or If you could own any car in the world what would it be and why? etc. (changed actual questions to protect the innocent)
Then we were herded back downstairs and given a piece of a puzzle telling us that we completed step 1 of 3. When 3 puzzle pieces are collected then you would have a job. Then the hostess asked a few people to stay because there were errors on their applications that needed to be corrected. LOL These were the actual candidates that were asked back for step 2 to be scheduled later and the the rest of the applicants were told they would receive an e-mail if they were selected....They were all of coarse not selected. Not one poker or Management question was asked. Just HR psycho stuff that will get them HAPPY but not Serious Poker Managers. Good Luck to them. Hope this was enlightening.
This is similar to the experience that I was told about in late June. In fairness, having been trained by Stan, the Ruler of the East, I honestly don't believe Raye had a hand in developing that interview procedure. There must have been a lot of people applying. It kind of makes me sick, almost like we're not serious about the game. I don't need happy, happy shift managers and floor supervisors. I need smart ones who will make the right decisions in the best interest of the game and players regardless of their choice of super hero's (Hmmm I wonder what the choice means to Dr HR, PHD).

It's really hard to choose who I'd want to be since they're all so nice and, well........ I'm not. But, I think I'm Batman. That has to mean I don't have a career at Sugarhouse. He's not the happy happy sort, but he most reflects my dark side. Yeah, Batman has to be a failing response. I guess I will be getting that never arriving email. But, I can sing pretty well. I do it many mornings in the shower and sometimes in the car.,...maybe there's hope

Any idea on a tournament schedule yet?

Woah woah what's this? Relevant talk isn't allowed here. Super hero hype thread now.

If those rumors about the interview process are accurate it will be interesting to see how their choices work out. Quality supervisors play such a huge role in making a room great so hopefully the hiring team knew what they were doing.

Most casinos do the ridiculous group interviews now. I know for a fact Revel did the same thing and to me it had a lot to do with their success in rejuvenating Atlantic City.

Wait, could the head of Revel HR have moved to the Sugarhouse? Damn psychotic.... uhmmm I mean psychoanalytical PHD's are always in demand. I heard a few Revel employees might be looking for jobs. Just a rumor. All Sugarhouse needs to do now is hide that room or submerge it in the Delaware with no signage and no way to get there. A wall without a door might work or an escalator to that leads no place. Still, They still can all sing and they're fun and happy!

How about a weekly karaoke session where everyone dresses up like their favorite superheroe and sings. The winner gets a free T-shirt.

I would go with Charles Xavier for mind control/reading abilities. Always gets it in good, amirite.

Dealertainers for when there's no waiting list too.

Dealertainers? I like it.

we should just close this thread and wait til it opens up because all we do is argue. Re-open it a week before the poker room actually opens.

That's what makes hype threads great: there's nothing to talk about, so you have to make stuff up.

... like, what is best song to sing during a panel interview?

Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train ... ??? ... might not be optimal.

Sing-along + gaming theme certainly seems like a winner.

Hello Everyone - You are all an entertaining lot! I've been going through the posts and have been laughing out loud. Thank-you for that! Let's get down to business. The building is going to plan. No set backs. If your in the area, you can see it. It's completely enclosed and the interior is now being retro-fitted. SugarHouse is not releasing an opening date yet. As soon as they are ready to do this, this is the first place I will post. I think the mindset here is the very similar to the thought process behind the opening of Borgata.

Hello ACtoLV - We will have tournaments. It's a matter of when. We want to open the room, see when we have the opportunity (read: tables). We definitely would like feedback from you. So if you have certain times/days/buy-in amounts/type (bounty, deep stack, turbo, etc.) we want to hear your preferences. I was tournament coordinator for a few years at Borgata, so tournaments are my wheelhouse. Thank-you for your question. Raye

Coasterbrad - Thank-you for your post. We're very excited about the room. There are many aspects of the room I can't get detailed about (the competition is everywhere!) I'm sure you will see many familiar faces (supervisors, shifts and dealers) from other rooms. Raye

Make sure you put one aside in 3X.

Thanks.

P.S. As long as it isn't pink or some neon crap. Black with red sounds good.

Also if you run $1/$3 I will probably start avoiding Harrah's like the plague due to their inability to adequately comp me on my upcoming trip to Vegas.
IbelieveinChipKelly - I think there will be many players such as yourself that will want to play that limit. Thank-you for the post. Raye

And what thought process is that? When they opened the room "down the escalator" (actually liked that room even though it was always so crowded) or when they opened the present room?

When any one is near the Sugar House snap a pic and post it please. Would like to see the progress.

When the Room opens it will be the first time motivated to set foot in this casino, and it is by far closer than Parx or Harrahs.

I realize that you do not have an opening date yet, but it is Sunday, I am up reading the paper, and it is a good time to do these things. So, do not feel pressured to answer these ?s right now. Please answer them sometime before the opening however. Certainly some of these questions pertain to the casino in general, and have already been answered for others. It is nice to have them all in one place however. I will put in the public transport from South Jersey, since I know that one. Otherwise, I will leave the precise details to you.

Thanks
