I wrote my post before the clarifying edit; probably would not have bothered had it been written that way in the first place.

Criticizing the play of others (assuming they play fair) at the table is counterproductive (i.e., the "don't tap the glass" argument). More important is the fact that it simply isn't nice.

The "isn't nice" argument was made in the middle of about a ten year old thread that started with the "don't tap the glass argument" (which had been done many times before even then).

After about 20 posts Tommy Angelo came in and said something like "I thoroughly and completely disagree and you guys should feel ashamed. The reason you don't criticize others (when they aren't harming others) is that it isn't nice."

Of course Tommy wrote it much better. Eventually the thread lifted up to discussions of the meaning of life and great poetry. It was 2+2 at it's best.

I read the first and last pages of this thread, and assuming all the posts in between are similar, I can say with some confidence that if you've posted in this thread, you are a fair poker player at best, and more likely a bad one.

God what a terrible thread.

An obviously altered guy wins a pot with Q6o and the table jokes for a minute about Q6 being a monster hand. The guy gets really serious and says "No, you have to play Q6 because they're very..." then motions with his hands "... round."

You probably had to be there for that one. He was dead serious when he said it.

Re: Stupid & Funny Advice that Donks give you

Not really advice, but for some reason it irks me to no end when a hand goes down, for example pre-flop, 1010 vs. 77 (or two overs) and someone says something to the extent of "I folded one of your outs..."

And they are talking to the person holding the 1010

I have never seen someone so "altered" that it was obvious. It might help if I knew what that meant.

By "altered" I mean under the influence of a drug. I'm guessing pot, but it was hard to tell.

a lot of kitchen table 7 card stud donks seem to believe in this general idea. I was all-in w/AA against 77. Someone at the table asked 77 why he had gone all-in. "He only had a pair of aces," was the response.

That is so very true. After all, you can hit quads with any two cards if three of one of your cards hit the flop. And if they don't, well, there's still the turn and river.

"Hope springs eternal...."

and the corollary:

"Fortune favors the foolish."

Re: Stupid & Funny Advice that Donks give you

When I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago, I was absolutely crushing this 1/2 game at the Bellagio, thankful to some fish who kept donating. I was playing well, making hero calls, getting cards, and playing aggressively and basically running the table over. This one guy a couple to my right (Lets call this fish "Tuna") has been eyeing my stack with envy all night.

There are 4 limpers, I am OTB with J9o, raised it to 15. Tuna and one other limper called. Flopped JJ2, I bet 30, Tuna called. Turned 2. He checks, I bet, he calls. River comes a 6, he open shoves, I thought for 5 secs and calls, he shows J6. I said nice hand and thought what a lucky ****.

A couple orbits later comes the interesting hand. A couple limpers, I am OTB with J8cc, standard raise to 15. Once again Tuna and one other guy called. Flop 3 clubs K high, he checks, I bet 40, he calls. Turn comes another club, he thought for a bit and checks. I was scared that he might be trapping me cause that's what fish loves to do, I check. River another club, he checks, I thought for a bit and figure I can't get value out of any lower flush, and rolls over my flush in disgust. He rolled over top-set.

Tuna: You are so lucky the board didn't pair.
ME: You have to be behind to get lucky.
Tuna: Would you call if I shove on the flop.
Me: I probably wouldn't like it but I think I would have to call
Tuna: Would you call if I shove pre-flop?
Me: Are you serious?
(Tuna dead serious look as if I would definitely call a 250BB preflop shove with J8s)
Me: Obviously not, you are so lucky 2 more clubs come, or else you would lose so much more. Like that earlier hand, you are so lucky you hit that 6 on the river.
Tuna: Dude, are you serious, you played horrible that hand. First of all you raised with J9o pre-flop (at this time I was thinking didn't you call a $15 pre-flop raise with J6s OOP, and overlimp/call KK OOP to BTN raiser? And you call that expert play?), and after I called you twice on the flop and the turn, and lead out the river, obviously I have you beat. Your call was terrible

At this time I was just speechless, obviously if I ran into 22 it sucks, but J6 is not a possible holding according to the action preflop. Yes, according to his expert opinion, I should fold to a 3/4 pot river shove with J9 on a JJ226 board.

That's wisdom right there, folks. Live and learn.

Re: Stupid & Funny Advice that Donks give you

Was playing some low level limit game in Vegas about a year ago. Maybe 4/8 or something. [ ] Beat

Anyways was running good and had a decent stack. This kid sits next to me and eyes my stack and says wow you're good, how do you win at this game, I never win. He then tells me about his play money exploits for the next 15 minutes. Meanwhile he had never folded and dropped about $300. He keeps asking me how I keep winning etc...

I look at him and tell him I feel bad because he is losing so I will tell him how I win. I count cards. His jaw dropped. He whispers how does it work?
I tell him watch and learn. The dealer deals around the table and I whisper to the kid, 18 so far. He counts with me and nods his head in agreement.

The dealer then burns a card, deals the flop and I look at the kid and tell him, did you see that! He burned a card. That makes it 22. That's the secret to card counting, not to forget the burn card.

He ends up spending a bunch of the rest of his stack counting with me and after he felts, he gets up and leaves telling his friend who was waiting behind him, let's go. I can't win with all these guys counting cards.

The guys beside me that overheard broke up laughing after the guy was gone.
