Stalling a tournament game when close to the money - Page 2 - Poker Card Room

This is standard procedure. As was recently pointed out by someone else, it not only prevents stalling into Day 2 but also stalling related to the position of the blinds before the table redraw at the end of the day. Otherwise the UTG players would stall to avoid taking the blinds.

People who want to make day 2 can stall up until the announcement of number of hands left, and then fold their last N hands. People who want to avoid the blinds won't accomplish much since the drawn number could still be big enough to put them in the blinds.

Based on your scare quotes, I'm curious: Do you have a reason to doubt that the number is randomly drawn?

I have no reason to doubt it is randomly drawn. I just don't know how it is randomly drawn.

Personally I am less worried about the Day 2 stalling than I am about bubble stalling. And I'm not seeing that much bubble stalling...

ive only cashed a few times in non-wsop tournies but a staff member has always went with me to the cage/payout area to confirm my finishing position. is this seriously how its ran at the wsop lol

There is someone walking you to the desk. But first you wait for that person to get to your table which can take a little bit because post bubble people drop like flies and they are constantly understaffed and then that person waits for you to get your stuff ready and then it’s up to your walking speed.

I noticed that when I was waiting in line right behind a guy who got eliminated at my table two hands earlier and then remembered he was still standing next to the table when I picked up my last hand.

I am not saying lots of people take advantage of that, but you can definitely move up a couple spots by virtue of being a slow walker who got eliminated at an outer table.

FWIW, there might be some recreational players who want to brag about making it to day two, but lots of serious players try to either double up or bust at the end of the day because it’s hardcore annoying to come back to a 5BB stack. You have to get up on time and get to the Rio, just to most likely not making it through the first 30mins of play. Huge waste of time.
