With the caveat that I've never been to Vegas during the WSOP, it just seems like the bell curve for people who travel to Vegas during the WSOP is going to be shifted skillward over people who travel to Vegas outisde of WSOP. For those on the far right of the skill curve, this is great because instead of having a single, occasional 10/20 NL or 80/160 LHE, there will be multiple games and a crusher can probably beat all of them. But for people in the center-right of that skill curve, like solid winners at 2/5 NL - 15/30 LHE or small winners at 5/10 NL - 40/80 LHE, I can't imagine this is a feast. And certainly for the center-left of the skill curve, like solid 1/2 NL - 6/12 LHE or small 2/5 NL - 15/30 LHE winners, this is probably worse than usual.

Again, I'm not presenting this as expert opinion, just wondering if someone out there who is admittedly a non-stellar regular player wants to give an opinion from the middle of the bell curve.
You are quite right that playing in Vegas, at least this past weekend, was more about skill vs skill than the usual spot the tourist game. The people that few out for the event are already regular poker players and quite a few low level winners.

But that doesn't mean there aren't some advantages. 1 there are lot of tourney players who will be sitting in the cash games treating them as not the important part of their career. Even a lot of cash grinders I encountered at 2/5 felt they had something to prove cause I didn't fly out here to fold for 3 hours, I'm gonna out play these chumps. So I sat in quite a few slow tight 2/5 tables punctuated every 25 minutes by spazzy FPS raising where it wasn't warranted.

This was also exacerbated by the fact that some of them were waiting two hours just to sit down. And some probably did play higher just to get in a game. (Brag: I played PLO for the first time ever and made $100/hr )

in reply Nit: It's probably generally a bad idea to go from 1/2 straight to 5/10. but if you are nitting it up and short stacking etc. then you aren't really missing anything by skipping 2/5. You are more likely to encounter self descrived lags at 5T.

Mods I could not find a thread for WSOP in this area. Feel free to merge.

On my way to WSOP and wondering where to play cash, on the Strip or at the WSOP.

One key questions is if the WSOP pays rake back. Most strip places where i would play pay $2 per h.
