Showing cards to a friend - Page 2 - Poker Card Room

OK, but just to muddy the waters (just when you thought everything was clear), please be aware that at cash games in most rooms, showing your cards to a spectator or another player not in the hand is common and tolerated, and exposing your cards (when HU) is also mostly tolerated. Tournaments are much more strict about these acts.

That is true, but terrible. Showing cards causes exactly the same problems in cash games as it does in tournaments, and I hate that some rooms think that the integrity of the game is more important in a tournament than it is in a cash game.

For cash the most common rules are Robert’s Rules of Poker. But ev n rooms based on these will usually have some room specific rules. These are widely available on line.

The TDA rule is good, though stricter than I would be in one respect.

I have no objection to "sweating". If you want to show hands to a spectator and discuss them later, that's fine with me. That's how people learn how to play better poker.

But you should never show cards to any player at the table except if you show them to the whole table, and you should never show them to the whole table unless you are last to act with no more betting remaining and are folding or mucking, or perhaps in the heads-up situation where you are trying to get a read on your opponent (and I am not a fan of that either).
