People don't hate unprofessionalism, they love it. People love "sticking it to the man" and "teaching people lessons" and most people don't love their jobs enough that the downside of getting fired is a deterrent.

You accidentally muck someone's cards while pretending to, or you get close enough so their opponent argues you did, and we get the B&M Thread of the Week "I turned my hand up at showdown and the dealer mucked it."

The problem is bringing attention to another moron at the table who may not know there is a low possibility. I've been at many tables and watched many hands where a player will muck his hand that would have qualified and won the low just because they missed their draw. It should be on the player to recognize if their is a possible low, and/or if they can beat it. Say for instance the dealer announces "player A has a king high flush and no low", now it's been brought to the attention of moron B who has a low but wasn't aware until the dealer said something. See the issue? If you don't that's fine, I'll just bow out of this thread.
I'm honestly shocked by the number of posters in this thread who don't understand this. Dealer shouldn't need to prompt players to table their hand. Once it is tabled the dealer will get the money to the winner(s).

Announcing the best hand tabled so far is mostly to speed up the process, which is why it is not particularly important whether dealer announces the exact hi hand or approximate rank.

Everyone understands this. They just don't agree that

1) announcing that one player has a low should be considered "prompting" other players to show their hand

2) the slight chance of this announcement helping one player over another should be considered more important than the clarity provided by following proper procedure

3) it is a positive outcome for a lesser hand to win just because the player with the best hand didn't realize what he held

Mind blowing stuff in this thread. If I let showdowns take 30 seconds+ because I don’t announce hands I cost myself 3-5 hands per down. Ummmmm no thanks, we’re not playing “gotcha” poker...anyone who tables their hand at my table and it’s the best/only hand tabled it’s getting announced. Nosebleed stakes where players basically run the game and dealers are expected to say virtually nothing, different story.

IME, most dealers are terrible at reading O8 hands and are likely to give out wrong info. That would be my concern.

Not having dealers read hands wouldn't solve this. How do those dealers decide where to push the pot? And if you struggle to read O8 hands, I can't imagine it's easier to do so with 29 cards faceup like the player from OP wants, with a table of O8 players barking at you.

I'm saying that a dealer misreading a hand, and then announcing it to the table could cause a player to incorrectly fold a winning hand.

I'm not really sure what you're advocating.

I would advocate that dealers correctly read tabled hands and if you aren't capable of reading O8, you shouldn't be dealing O8.

What are you advocating? Seat 8 tables his hand, seat 2 says "what's he got?" Now what?

I'm not sure what the best solution is. Better dealers, I suppose.

I often find myself needing to correct dealers at showdown. It's not an ideal situation.

So despite "cards speak" and the fact that the rules say dealers should assist with reading, your preference is the dealer should sit mute when a player with an active hand asks the contents of the tabled hand?? That is completely absurd.

Ok he tabled. Now what?

Ok he tabled. Now what?
Now you muck the losing hand and push the pot. Then he screams, "wait! what does he have?" And apparently you just keep quiet and move on to the next hand because you can't be helping to read hands.
