Seat Fees Vs Standard Rake

Hello TwoPlusTwo,

My question is with regard to rake structures at local card houses and how they might compare to your average casinos (which in my experience is 5 to 10 percent with $4 or $5 caps).

Background:
Texas recently opened some legal card houses that run mostly 1/2NL games. They found a loophole where they classify themselves as "private social clubs" and do this, in part, by not taking money directly off the table.

They charge you a membership ($5 a day, less if you pay for long-term memberships) and then charge you a "seat fee" of $8 an hour while you play, which you pay at the end of the cash games. These are also classified as "tip free" games but I would still consider it good form to slip the dealer some cash after you cashout a winning session at the end of the night.

It seems this would be worse for losing players because if you are mostly losing pots the standard rake doesn't hit you as often but for a winning player it might not be too bad.

I appreciate your thoughts.

Re: Seat Fees Vs Standard Rake

Unfortunately we do not permit discussion of these quasi-legal rooms here in CCP.
