Sorry if this isn’t the best place to post this but was curious as to what other people think.

Does anyone else feel like poker is a revolving door? People just disappear forever in the poker world it seems like.

People run hot play tons of hours go on a brutal downswing and just are never seen again. It happens all the time.

Am I one of the only people who noticed this?

Regs you see every day just are never seen again. People that used to play EVERY single day might play once a month now.

People playing 10/20 are now playing 1/2 it’s spooky.

The gambling world is so crazy.

Just like the game of poker itself, life is variable with daily/monthly/yearly ebbs and flows. In order to look at any one individual you need to know what brought them to poker in the first place and then what they hope to 'achieve' from playing. That in itself is wide open and creates a matrix of potential outcomes.

People get a new job .. schedule changes
People move away
People run out of patience
People get sick of the other people
People run out of disposable income
People find other avenues for their time
People come to the reality that they've capped out their potential for growth in the game
People get married/have kids
People get frustrated with the slow grind up and the quick falls down

I wouldn't say that Regs 'just disappear' from my Player Pool, but they do fade away for various reasons. And yes, a few are not seen or heard from again .. but I wouldn't say it happens 'all the time' per se. Everything has reference based on your time in the rooms and the size of your poker community in general.

I will say that I don't really know of many, if any, that have dropped down from the highest stakes that are still playing at the lowest stakes in our 'market'. GL

All this ^ and ...

People have lives outside of poker, that's all. Also, sometimes one just needs a change and will cease going to the same place to play for a while.

As to people dropping the size game they play, your example seems extreme. When the 1/3 was a $300 max buy and the 2/5 was a $1,000 max buy, the 2/5 was plenty soft. However, when both games went to a table max buyin, the 1/3 became a far easier game, with stacks as deep, or deeper than the old 2/5 and played a lot easier. Hence why many regs moved down.

Speaking as someone that has been around since 5-card draw, jacks-or-better-to-open, limit (with an ante) the game, environment, player pool, knowledge base, games and stakes are constantly evolving.

Get used to it and adapt, or move on yourself.

I stop going everyday when I’m either losing at casino or winning online. When those things are happening driving to casino makes no sense.

In my experience, it is pretty tough to notice when a reg hasn't been in for a while, unless they stand out for some reason (friend of yours, huge fish, etc.). Much easier to notice when someone is in your game that you've never seen before. Makes sense because we're inherently self-centered, so we focus on who is in our games, not who is not in our games. Most of the time I sit in a game, I know all or almost all the other players, and the exact combination doesn't really matter so long as the game is beatable.
