Recommendation Please - Reno or Tahoe for November Recommendation Please - Reno or Tahoe for November

Ms. gamboolgal and I are planning on going to someplace new to play the pokerz on our next vacation.

Will be off month of November.

We went to Vegas for WSOP for about 2 weeks this year already so we are thinking of Reno or Tahoe. We've never been to either location.

For 1/2, 1/3 donkfests- is their a preference from the folks who have played there?

We play for fun, and while it is great to win, the priority is to have a good time and have afew greyhounds and donk it up. We don't mind rebuying as long as we are having fun.

Any advice and tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks, gamboolman & gamboolgal...

It has been said that the Peppermill in Reno ranks in the top three most beautiful poker rooms to play in anywhere. I have been to Tahoe and the whole area is beautiful, but the poker action is pretty slim. Maybe better action at the Peppermill with a side trip to Tahoe?

Yes, you will want to go to Peppermill Reno. Tahoe as a day trip about an hour away. The only poker in Tahoe is Hyatt Incline Village, but runs only at night and sometimes only on the weekends. The other is Harvey's South Lake Tahoe, which runs a loose 2-3 NL cash game also in the evening only (usually). Harvey's is also a run down casino in a beautiful location.
You will be very comfortable at Peppermill and they have some type of poker going 24/7. Most days 2-3 tables 1/2, 1 table 3/6 limit and a reg filled 3/5 NL. You can also go visit Alantis and Eldorado in Reno for low stakes NL.
Also remember that November is often the coldest month in the area. Expect freezing temps and possible snow storms. Or clear skies and just really cold at night.

This is the best advice imo. I lived in norcal back when I made this account and this is accurate.

We've lived here for 20+ years - if you make the trip, drop me a PM if you'd like restaurant/tourist suggestions.

for pure poker, It's Reno 100% (some interesting local games and small cardrooms in Tahoe but nothing to get too excited about.) Overall casino experience I loved Tahoe way more (less dealing with degens and regs and more playing with touristy whale types.) Purely from a vacation/fun standpoint, it is 100% Tahoe hands down. hikes, bikes, great food and nice locals (but weather can play a factor.)

All things being equal, do as others have a suggested and stay in Reno and take the short day trip (or one evening trip) to Tahoe.

Normally I would say I agree with everyone here, but there is a WSOP circuit event in November at Harvey's and that changes the equation drastically. Most of the Peppermill players will be at Harvey's playing in the tournaments and side games there. If you happen to coincide your trip with the WSOP circuit event, you will be disappointed in the action at the Peppermill.

The other 11.5 months out of the year, everyone here is correct.

edit: The circuit event this year is from Oct. 27-Nov. 7, 2016 at Harvey's.
