Play at Crown like once/twice year when family who play poker come to Melbourne, rake is horrific, players are even worse. All of their tournaments <$200 are shove fests too

Interesting.

What are the laws regarding opening a competing poker club in the area?

Crown has the only license, and most certainly pay a handsome amount for it to remain that way

How could I possibly forget...
Star Casino, Sydney (how surprising), going back a couple of years before sanity finally prevailed (if you could call the current rake sanity):
5/10 LHE: $1.25 per person per hand! Even if it was folded to the big blind.
10/20 LHE: $2.50 per person per hand!
5/5 (200 buy-in - yes a weird 40bb structure): if memory serves me correctly 10% up to $10 plus $1 per person per hand.

"gl getting government licensing"

you can't get a licence to run cash games in Melb., however you can run a poker room that spreads tournies/sit n go's with vouchers as prizes, i'm thinking petrol and grocery vouches would be easily bartered for consistent winners,

pokerdome were doing it in Sydney iirc, don't know why it went bust, people prefer cash play maybe??

I just returned home last week from a Royal Caribbean cruise on Voyager of the Seas and the rake was 10% to a max of $15.

Earlier this year I was on a Royal Caribbean cruise on Mariner of the Seas and the max was only $10.

I cruise quite often and have never come across a $25max on any ship of Royal Caribbean or any other cruise line for that matter.

Recent reports from management would suggest rake on 2/3 is increasing from $8 max to $10 max.

Current buy ins are worth a mention for their stupidity: $50 min $200 max.

Home games are flourishing with many good crown dealers hosting.

Heard a good one at a cash table at Star City (or The Star if you're really up with the times) the other night.

I was expressing some shock to the dealer when he took rake from a pot that didn't go to a flop, and the old guy who hadn't said a word in the 20 minutes he'd been at the table chimes in with "these crooks even rake the misdeals."

Got a few LOL's

Why are you tipping in Korea? They don't tip for anything else so why would you tip at a casino?

"comp" is short for complimentary. "comped" is turning "comp" into a verb.

Lassiter's in Alice Springs - Does have poker but i do not know the rake for here as i have not played here..... Does anyone know it? Just to complete the list.

My Home Game - 0% commission with a $0 cap with a $0 hourly charge. 10c/20c games up to $2/$4 games. Beers are BYO. $100 Tournaments run every month with a free BBQ thrown in.

No responsible service of Alcohol policy enforced and no Responsible Gaming policy enforced. Your big enough to control yourself i think.

Its definitely not the worst in the world. I know casinos without any rake caps. AND drinks with a price double as high as those in crowns. AND entry fee into the casino. AND almost mandatory tips.

Welcome to Switzerland.

I only played at the Crown once in 2007. I was in a 4-8 LHE game and the dealer took 4 $2 chips for the rake. I was shocked. I commented to a player next to me that the rake was outrageous and that nobody could win.

He replied "Yes, but it's the only game in town." ROFLMAO

I played at a casino in London about 3 years ago. I sat down in a 1 pound/2 pound NLHE game. The first big pot I saw resulted in the dealer taking three 5 pound chips for the rake. That was about $22.50. I cashed out immediately.

10% capped at £10 is fairly common in the UK, which seems to be about the same.

So nothing special ouside US IMHO.

why is sydney the only place that seems to have a timecharge in australia, its kinda annoying when the dealer says alright timecharge, also the drink service i had there last time was terrible, they had about 3 waitresses run off their feet, had to wait 20 mins just for a glass of water
