The Grovsner Victoria casino in London is 10% Rake at the £1-£1 game, with a max of £5. That's pretty high. Their £1-£2 game is 5% rake with a max of £10. Out of interest which do you guys think would be better to play on if you had £200?

Exactly no competition means they can do what they like. I think the lisence they have is up for renewal in a couple of years. Hopefully some smaller clubs open up and offer competition

The one-table tourneys on the electronic tables, however, are typically $25+$5 or $50 + $10.

This is another situation I've never encountered.

A few years back, I was in Panama City for a night and found the rake weird -- they took nothing out of small pots, but took 10% out of larger pots until they got pretty high (or something like that).

I also remember RCL's 10% with no limit. I don't recall them taking 10% out of uncalled bets, though. Are you sure that this wasn't some dealer who didn't know what she/he was doing.

The RCL game was highly beatable despite the 10% no cap.

The worst rake I ever experienced was in Lugano casino about 5 or 6 years ago. Playing at a 20/40 limit game it was 10% uncapped and you had to tip as well. Brutal.

this.
I think the cruise liner stories are being a bit exaggerated also. i have taken 2 trips this year 1 for business and one for anniversary with the woman.

it was bad but not 20% uncapped or whatever.............lol. really?
one was 2/2 with a 10% 6 dollar max. second was much worse 2/5 with a 10% 10 dollar max. TERRIBLE. virtually every other hand saw the max cuz of the gambooly nature of a cruise game. not sure why it wasnt a timed game. felt like robbery. 7 or 8 out of 9 players truly didnt know that though.

actually i think the floor/cage/dealers were required to wear ski masks

I always laugh when I hear Vegas locals complain about the $5 rake some places have or when it takes the waitress a little too long to deliver their free drink. You don't know how good you have it!

All the games I played in Australia WERE very beatable, however.

OMG, like, seriously, OMG.

That's worse than some of the underground raked "home games" around here, which is ****** absurd.

I played at Crown last week and it was the standard $5/h + $8 Rake Cap.

So unless it has changed in the last ~5 days this isn't the case..

That was the first time I had played in a few months, one change I noticed is that 1/2 and 2/3 are now 8 handed, and 2/5 and 5/10 are now 10 handed, which I thought was a strange change for them to make, not sure how long ago that was changed.

2/5+ has always been 10 handed, I didn't know that 1/2, 2/3 were 8 handed now though, kinda interesting, it probably happened at the same time they made them all turbo.

^^ yeah the turbo/8 handed changes were at the same time

Australia is a degen country and 99% of the players know nothing about rake and consider it quite cheap tbh. There is nowhere else to play except home games, but nobody really likes those.

Crown Poker gets a lot of flack because it takes up floor space, and if that floor space was filled with $10 blackjack tables, it'd make a lot more money. Australian wages are high, dealers earn well over $22 an hour from my understanding (I've heard $27 an hour from a couple of people), and the taxes and costs of everything else mean they have to keep uping the rake to have it even be close to the pit games (which it still isnt)

Its laughable and bad I know, theres no tipping which gives a little back but nowhere near enough

2/5 rake is now 'red chip' rake at 10% capped at 10, if the pot is under $50, no rake, 50-100 $5 rake, 100+ is $10 rake, plus $10 an hour

There arent many pots under $100 though

The game is still beatable though.

Star City (or The Star as they call themselves now) in Sydney has just *increased* their 1/2 rake, now $5 / hour plus 10% up to $10 (used to be capped at $8). I have also had waitresses drop the change on the floor and walk off when I didn't give them all the change as a tip (coffee is 3.50, they expected the 1.50 change from a 5 as a tip).

I play at Skycity in Adelaide. Take is awful. I play 1/2, which is 10% capped at $15, no time charge. No cheap drinks, no points for purchases at the table and you have to pay for parking. We really do get the short end of the stick here in Australia.

Guys, there is an easy solution to this.

Just start your own game take a 10% $6 max chop, offer self service free beer, drinks, snacks, the very best custom ceramic chips money can buy, a nice table, quality chairs, a fresh setup of copags and a pro dealer every night, and you can beat the casino at their own game, and offer a game for players which is very beatable.

Thats what we do here in Brooklyn, as transportation costs to goto the closest casino is $25 min (gas +tolls or the bus) and takes 3-4 hours roundtrip, without traffic. The decision on where to go for most players isnt close.
