Seems like u were a great friend to Doogie and provided him with a great life.

I myself have a 3 year old pug and he's been at my side everyday of his life and is my best friend, I can only how hard this must be.

Easier said then done, but put a smile on your face and celebrate this life with good memories.

I will accept a few tips on traveling with pooch, in car, during HOT weather, because no way, pooch can be left inside vehicle with me at poker table. If you leave pooch in hotel room, do you use an anti bark collar? Any tips on such things?

I am really very very sorry for your loss. I empathize with complete understanding.
5 weeks ago we lost out 16 year 5 month and 5 day old Peke named Buddy.
The sadness will remain, but the memories make us smile, along with those of his brother Harley who we lost at 15 years and 20 days in October of 08.

Our vet recommended a colleague who was able to come to the house to help Buddy pass( he had developed un-treatable cognitive dysfunction).
There is NO better way if you have a choice to "help" an animal transition, he was comfortable at home and in my arms for his last moments rather than stressed out in the familiar yet uncomfortable Vets office.

Jason, thanks for the kind words and condolences and I'm sorry for the loss of your dog. Tell your mom I'm sorry for her loss too. Dogs are such wonderful beings.

I was just down in AC last week and stopped in Showboat. It was like a ghost town since the bad beat at the Taj was over half a mil. Keep me posted when you'll be back down there.

Yeah, you can't leave your dog in the car and play poker in the hot weather and really shouldn't any time for any extended period of time.

I used to sneak Doogie into the hotel in a large cloth "hobo" type bag. For some reason, he never made any sound or even moved while in the bad. He was like dead weight in there. Almost every time I saw someone in an elevator with him, they would ask me if I had all my money in the bag. I always told them that it was something much more valuable than money and would show them Doogie looking up in the bag.

But I was very lucky that he was an unusually quiet dog and almost never barked. Only when I was eating and not sharing with him did he remind me with a bark that he was in fact right there and FAMISHED.....after scarfing down his own dinner.

If you leave yours in the hotel room, make it as dark as possible in there and turn out the lights and TV and he should go right to sleep. Good luck with it.

Sorry for you loss of Buddy and Harley recently. It sounds like they both had some great and long lives. And it sounds like Buddy went out in a very peaceful manner. I really feel "lucky" that I didn't have to make the decision and that he died at home in my arms. But any way they go is still very painful.

Thanks again to everyone who offered their condolences. It's been a tough week for me. I just picked up his ashes the other night almost exactly one week to the minute from when I said my final good bye to him.

I know that I might be going a little overboard, but I'm having a custom urn made in his likeness for him from someone on Ebay. I also had a paw print in clay made, as well as a some paw prints and a nose print in ink made too. And I got some of his hair in all three colors so I can carry some around with me on a key chain. I am even going to have an artist from Ebay paint a portrait of him for me. And I'm going to make a little shrine for him.
