Question about South FL card rooms Question about South FL card rooms

I am preparing to move to South Florida for the next 6-7 months with the intention of spending about 25 hours a week grinding NLHE cash games (2/5). I haven't played much in South FL and therefore don't know which card rooms are best suited to my needs. So I would appreciate some feedback from anyone who has experience with the live poker scene. Since getting around is such a hassle, I am planning to look for an apartment that is as close as possible to whichever card room I want to play at.

I have played a little bit at The Isle and Hard Rock and liked them both. I've never played at Hialeah or any of the other SoFla rooms. Obviously the quality of the games is the primary consideration. (The more fish, the better!) Other things that are important are the comfort level/amenities of the rooms, the quality of management & dealers, and the incentive programs/comps.

Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Check Poker Atlas as well. There are rooms that don't show up on Bravo but are still worth checking out.

There are Airbnbs everywhere down there. Spend a week at each room and see which one suits you best.

Games are playing a bit bigger right now with the snowbirds in town. They will leave town in 4-5 months.

If you want to play 2/5, you will want to play at The Isle, Hard Rock or Palm Beach Kennel Club. The other local rooms like Coconut Creek, Hialeah, Magic City and Gulfstream dont have enough 2/5 games running to make any of them your main room.

Personally, I like the Isle the best when it comes to comfort, dealers, management, atmosphere and all that stuff.

Id say PBKC has the loosest action but they give no comps. They charge $3 for water and $2 if you chop. Its slightly dumpish with low ceilings, cramped space, older building..ect.

Isle has "no flop no drop". PBKC and HR dont but they both have more action than the Isle. The Isle is reg and nit infested.

Thanks, Mike! I have played at all three places, and my impressions were pretty much exactly what you said. For pure poker, I would probably pick PBKC, but I just hate the idea of spending 20-30 hours per week in that space. The Isle is very nice, but I found it to be quite nitty -- lots of older guys just passing the time. I feel like Hard Rock is probably the best overall option in terms of action, atmosphere, and comps, but I'll spend a few more days at each one before making a decision about where to live.

As a frequent So.FL. visitor, I think the sweet spot for living is anywhere in the triangle of Seminole HR, Isle and CoCo. I love visiting/staying in Pompano Beach- wife and I will be oceanfront in March for a few. (I also love harness racing) But, this area give you the most tables and selection of anywhere in Florida. And I'm omitting Gulfstream and Hialeah, just a bit south of here. I find GSP can be a great place on weekends in the winter, when the horses are running.
The only options up in the PBI area will be PBKC, and some small cardrooms up near Ft. Pierce and Melbourne, going north. And not worthy of big selection. For any variety, you'll be driving down to Isle and Coco anyways.

Sorry to drone on, but am thinking that a lot of eyeballs will be on this thread, wondering about some specifics that your great post will generate. See y'all this winter.

I've found that Hialeah has softer games but I would recommend knowing Spanish if you play there.
