Hi evryone,

This question has probably been asked before and if I am in the wrong forum please move, no idea where this should go.

Currently I'm a regular at 2/4 in some casinos in europe, while living in The Netherlands. I'm starting to win a bunch more money than i can spent and i was thinking of depositing a couple K(3-5Kish) every month in my bank account.

How can i proof this money is from poker when i get audited?
Anyone that has been in a similiar situation?
Am I being paranoid about this?

I might get a decent amount of money build up without any explanation except for poker and I'm wondering if other people were/are in similiar situations and how they handled it.

Keep records.

1. Keep a daily log of your winnings.
2. Get a record from all the casinos that you play at the time you played from your players card.

I'll note that one of the favorite ways to money launder is to claim money as "winnings." As long as you have the daily log that looks like it wasn't written at one sitting, proof you were at the table and your win rate was reasonable, you'll be fine. If your excuse for not having a card is that you don't want your spouse knowing your play, have a win rate of 50 bb/hr, and your record is on the back of a napkin written with the same pen, the authorities aren't going to believe you.

Thank you for the replies.

I already keep a daily log (in excell) with hoursplayed, winrate, location , etc.

However what do you mean by getting a record from the casino? Ask for a proof that I was there evrytime i visit? Is it normal to ask for a proof of winnings?

I heard it is easier with tournaments, as you can get a proof that you won a somewhat large amount from the casino, I was thinking of using the money won from cash games to play in tournaments.

The casino record is just proving the hours. It helps confirm that your records are legit. It's not required in most jurisdictions, but it helps.

In US if you cash out for more than $10K there is 'paperwork' that takes place at the casino. That would be an official record of where the funds came from.

There are other threads on this site as well, search function.

You can also try to find a lawyer/accountant who has experience with professional gamblers or at least 'lottery winners' and ask them what they need from you in order to prepare a legitimate up to par tax return.

Although it shouldn't matter, the likelihood of an audit is pretty low. But that doesn't mean you don't need to keep good records. A good tax accountant should insure that you only pay in what you owe, and not a cent more. GL
