I ignore for the most part (no point in deliberately antagonizing people, and you're not going to change anyone's mind at the poker table), but I have been a complete prick on other occasions, someone spouting massively far-right/racist/sexist/xenophobic/islamophobic views is not going to get treated too well by me.

I'm an immigrant to the US myself (but I'm white so people don't think anything until I speak), so I've definitely slowrolled people in the above mould before.

1a) If it's a table full of old white guys, take the liberal stance
1b) If it's a more diverse table, Trump 2024
2) Wait for the nuts
3) Overbet
4) ???
5) Profit

Being an OMC, most right-wing nut jobs assume I'm with them. I'm not. I usually ignore them but will occasionally slow roll them given the chance.

Typically, they're not the best or brightest at the table so watching them lose has some merit for me.

If a conversation gets bad political or not I ask for a table change. The other day this guy was just talking too much it wasn’t even what he was saying it was just the non stop talking. I ended up just switching tables.

i used to be a reg at Aria in the 5-5/10 (rock) plo (not in the moment due to covid travel restrictions), there was one guy who was the absolute specialist in using table talk to his advantage:
He was actually a decent reg (postflop), but super nitty pre, guessing VPIP around 10%. The thing is though, he was talking constantly, engaging with everyone, in on every topic and conversation, so to someone not paying close attention it looked like he wasn't nitty at all, which resulted in him getting paid very often when he had the goods ... never seen a performance so masterful.

I speak on topics I want to speak on and don't on ones I don't. It's worth mastering the art of politely tuning someone out at the poker table.

My political position at the poker table happens to be the exact opposite to whoever is on my right, and exactly the same as the person on my left.

It gets really bad if the TVs in the room are on news networks.

I'd rather watch Barney the Dinosaur.

While I resist political discussion at the poker table, I'm curious.

I simply do not understand how some people can hold certain positions. It's mostly the left positions that baffle me, but some on the right as well.

What I have noticed, however, is that the better players tend towards the right and the losers tend toward the left. So, I find knowing someones political views useful.

I will say this, successful business owners tend to be conservatives (not necessarily trump supporters, but small government, free market, bootstrappy conservative). These individuals tend to be pretty good.

Of course, individuals with higher education, multiple graduate degrees and certain professional jobs tend to be liberal. These individuals tend to be pretty good

True believers of any side, conspiracy theorists, idealogues, and cultists who tend to present only supporting facts and ignoring everything else in order to support their beliefs tend to not be good. And these people exist on both sides of the spectrum, but the trump phenomena has made his most rabid supporters more visible.

Well said. I was looking for a way to respond to checkraisdraw that was accurate and not pissy. This mostly covers it.

I would add that liberals and Trump vocal supporters tend to make themselves more visable and conservatives and independents, not so much.

I think you are a little biased againsted 'liberals', by equating them to trump supporters, while giving 'conservatives' their own category. Many liberals are reasonable, realistic people who don't feel the need to advertise their beliefs. So you just don't know they are there.

Until about the third time someone says, regarding kneeling NFL players, that 'those people are just lucky they can play football, otherwise they would be in jail'.

Then the quiet, moderate liberal makes himself known.

I hadn't thought that this would be a problem bec at every room I've ever played at -when someone starts talking politics- a simple 'no politics at the table, please' or 'we're here to play cards' always shuts the convo down.

Yea, I should have said leftist, not liberal. I've been an independent my whole life and have actually lost friends who accused me of supporting Trump, just because I don't hate him.

So yea, this stuff still runs through a filter. Sorry.
