Thought about maybe buying a $25 visa gift card and using it for two months of the service. Would get me thru the WSOP.

I read somewhere that the WWE has a similar subscription model and they get 1,500,000 subscribers (if I remember correctly). Guaranteed someone at Pokergo headquarters said 'yeah, we should be able to get 10% of that' I'd like to know how WWE launched their subscriptions service and what if any promotions they offered? Two different industires i get it, but it would interesting to compare.

What Pokergo should have done (i said this in an earlier post) is give 2 free months on sign up, which would have been this WSOP, and then go from there. The key is to get people to sign up. They blew their launch, i believe.

Whats better: getting 3,000 paying subs now, or 20,000 that are getting 2 months free but at least have signed up....

WWE currently has 1.4MM subscribers iirc. However, your first month is free (they keep track by cc#) and they give a free 1-3 months to people who unsubscribed months prior.

They offered a free week when you sign-up to start. They launched 42 days prior to the Wrestlemania of that year (2014). WM happened on April 6th and at the end of April, the network had 667k subs. However, they also launched with hundreds of hours of footage as opposed to the bare bones of pokergo.

Considering purchasing this right now but the lack of easy cancel is completely putting me off. Based in the UK and calling the USA during business hours there a substantial, expensive, pain (as they want it to be).

Had a closer look at the TOS https://www.pokergo.com/tos. The reference
Quote:
navigating to the Billing section of PokerGO Membership on the Site, selecting the Subscriptions tab, clicking on Manage, and clicking on Cancel Subscription.
is sneakily under the "Free Trial Period" so it only applies to that, not for if you pay for the month.

Under "Monthly Subscription" sub section "How to turn off Auto Renew" it says

Quote:
How to Turn Off Auto-Renew

You may turn off auto-renew at any time by calling the customer support center Monday through Friday 7am-7pm PST and Saturday 7am-12pm PST at 866-4-POKERGO.

Any pay model/subscription service should always start with a free period. It just makes sense. Notice the timing, they launched 42 days prior to Wrestlemania and gave 1 free month. which ended just in time for Wrestlemania, which is their signature event...

Isn't 866 a toll free number?

They offered a month free in the month of their biggest event of the year, Wrestlemania. FWIW, WWE's stock hasn't faired that great since starting the WWE Network. If you look at their stock you'll see it shoots up a ton right before the release, and then plummets starting right before Wrestlemania. I think that had a lot to do with the subscriber numbers being lower than anticipated.

From a technical standpoint and a content standpoint, WWE Network has been outstanding from the beginning. Way better than UFC Fight Pass and obviously better than what we are seeing on PokerGo.

I think a far better strategy would have been to launch in an a slow month, ie April or May giving people a free month to subscribe and then charging them during the WSOP. Fact is many of us won't be using this service outside of the summer coverage.

This is bull**** creative extortion that I hate and if I wasn't such a poker junky, I would have never given them my business but I completely understand agree with anyone else pissed off over this.

Also, you can't go to subscriptions and cancel, its not there.

I'm hopeful they will improve and succeed because I love watching poker but they have given people plenty of reasons to avoid their product, which is a shame.

A friend just told me they went through the entire day 2 broadcast without mentioning what was happening on any other table or showing any stack sizes other than the feature table. He thought it was the final table until new players started showing up...

Is that true? Lmao

I just reviewed the TOS at https://www.pokergo.com/tos about free subscription cancellations; they incorrectly list the phone number you have to call as 833-POKERGO.

Then, at https://www.pokergo.com/faq#contact, they list the correct number as 866-POKERGO.

Either way, you are forced to call them to make your cancellation, you cannot do it from the website. Something super dirty seems to be going on here, I just don't know what it is.

Didn't read whole thread but when using Chromecast the size of the screen is off on full-screen view, can't see the pot size or board graphics. Pretty annoying...

Yeah it was pretty bad how they dealt with seondary tables. I don't recall them including their stacks in the graphics and the few shots they got made them look like some movie scene in an illegal underground NYC poker room.

Yeah compare that to Amazon Prime
All online
and one time I ****ed up, paid the next month when I just needed one for something. So I go sigh, go tho the website, cancel so I don't forget all online with a few clicks

And without prompting or anything like that they just send me the pro-rated (pretty much 98% of the monthly payment) back.

And suddenly I'm thinking "oh **** they're really confident in the service huh did I miss out on something?"

That's how you find out a company is solid, wants loyalty over quick cash grab and is confident in the product they make it easy to cancel even ship you your money back

I had something like that with some poker room years ago (hidden renewing, cancelling by phone), I had to call some US number, here I had to wait 20 minutes for some clown whose primary language was also not english, so cancellation didn't happen ) Funny times, next time I have just blocked payments on my bank account, but... technically it is not correct, if you don't cancel service.

If the FT coverage of this one drop is as bad as it's been, theres no way I'm not cancelling the subscription. Like who the hell cares about what Lon and Norman has to say about poker with a field like this on a SHR, not to mention their stupid jokes that maybe fly with me when it's a boring QQ vs AK race in day 4 of the ME. What's the point of having a featured table and not hearing the table talk? And when they finally increase the volume of the table mics, they're so badly located that you hear more of the background noise than the actual seated players. It's not even about the $10 but trying to make them understand that this is a ****ty product. I'd pay the double for this One Drop as a PPV with commentators muted.
