Poker Question. Poker Question.

While dealing poker, should a dealer keep his stub hand down (cut card facing down) all the time or is flipping your hand over (cut card facing up) to manipulate chips and the pot okay? I'm thinking a cut card should be face down all the time so there is no chance to accidentally expose a card but I've had a lot of mixed reviews so I thought I'd ask here.

Thanks.

Imagine if you could place a chip on top of the deck. That chip should never fall off. So yes, the tops and bottom of the deck should be parallel with the felt and the face of the cut card should never be visible.

Yes, the deck should be held level with the table. Sometimes it's just not possible to do this 100% when trying to reach around seat 1's arms to get at something in seat 2 (seat 10/9 for left handed dealers) but they should at least try.

Many dealers stop doing it because it's hard on their wrists, slows them down a tad, and it's not something they ever get in trouble for.

One of the very first adjustments for a Dealer going from home game/poker room to casino employment is this very issue.

Plenty of flippers, and even some Dealers who switch stub hands during play than have to retrain their muscles for 'proper' technique. GL

If all dealers could do that, the cut card wouldn't be needed.

It's not that hard to not roll the deck...

One of the first things I was taught...”The ocean rolls but the deck never does”
