Headed to Cancun in a couple of months, staying at the Moon Palace Resort. Does anyone know if there are nearby casinos with poker?

Thanks.

i was playing with a guy from Northern Mexico one time and he told me that there was no poker in Mexico. he lived near the border and drove up to San Diego to play. Not sure if what he says applies to all of Mexico though............I know down in TJ they only have sports betting though.

There are a fairly large number of casinos nearby. Unfortunately, they are all on cruise ships and only open when underway.

I have played in home games in a few towns in Mexico (and seen ex-pats playing openly in a bar in Guymas), but there are currently no poker rooms in Mexico that I am aware of. There have been proposals to open casinos in Mexico in the past, and betting is allowed on Jai-Alai and dog tracks, and some sports betting at places like Caliente in Tijuana, but no casinos or poker as of yet.

I was there over the summer and spent 8 days at the beach palace. I checked out the moon palace and its pretty sweet. I hope you are getting the all inclusive package it will be more then worth it. The moon palace has like 10ish bars on them premise and they have waitresses that walk back and forth by the pools bringing you food and drinks when you want them.

The only problem with the moon palace is its a long ways away from the bars and clubs but there are lots of buses and clubs.

But as far as I could tell there was no poker. Your probably wont want to play anyways there are way more fun things to do then the poker.

I got married at Moon Palace in June. Unfortunately, they have slots only at the resort. No Poker. There tons of stuff to do beside poker but if you're really itching to play bring a laptop and play online. Moon Palace is a great place... enjoy.

There's a new Playboy casino in Cancun with an advertised poker rooms. May try it out tonight. Casino apparently has a $20 entrance fee which is anathema to my way of thinking. (You may get some back in chips?)

Anyone else tried it?

Brag: Won $2500 last night at poker night at my hotel.
Beat: Play money.

There are several casinos in Cancun with gambling. The Poker Pro electronic tables by Poker Tek seem to be the best. We enjoy Dubai Palace Casino because it has Texas Holdem poker, Black Jack and Roulette and hundreds of slot machines. The folks there are very friendly and helpful despite the English barrier. There is no cover charge, they accept US dollars or pesos and you can cash out in pesos. You can usually find a Texas Holdem game on the weekends or bring your own group with free transport from the hotel zone.

It seems there is a casino at the Grand Oasis now. There's even gonna be a small tourney series starting on the 23rd of April.

I was reading that up on that link recently. Are those US$ buy ins? Seems like a lot of high roller events if so.

My mistake... those are mexican pesos, today roughly 1 dollar = 19 pesos, rounding up to 20.

So the $11,000 ME entry is actually just 600 dollars, and the actual High Roller is just around 1,100 dollars.

Thats still pretty decent for a holiday/poker getaway. In fact that puts it in my buy in range. Its odd that nowhere in that article does it seem to specify.

So the series turned out to be pretty good. Humberto Brenes, JC Alvarado and bracelet winner Ángel Guillén all showed up. Plus, Cancún.

In any case, I can say that poker is back in Cancún.

Yeah, cash games ran all night long, usually starting around 9 pm. Sadly nobody played during the days (great weather), but at least at night it was full. Did not ask about the rake, but it seemed to me that it was nothing over the top.

On a side note, I managed to cash the Main Poker in Cancun? .

When I was there the game at Grand Oasis never ran. There was a game running most nights in Cancun proper at Dubai Palace. There are games in Playa as well.

What stakes ran every day when you were there? In dollars and pesos.

it was like a 10/20 peso game IIRC. reasonable rake. but smoking allowed. note : taxis in the hotel zone are prohibitively expensive, so the best bet is to take the bus into cancun proper and then grab a cab once you are in town. Taxis in Cancun proper are very cheap (USD not accepted bring pesos).
