Not being allowed on your phone during a hand period means you can't text your mother what's for dinner, or text your friend to see if they wanna chill. No means no. It doesn't matter who you're texting or what you're talking about. You can't show a dealer an off topic conversation and expect a green light to text during hands.

Can you read? @Playbig2000

If they are texting each other during the hand, and players suspect something, and the dealers suspect something, the casino certainly has the right to request those specific players not to text during the hand.

In rooms that enforce no texting during a hand, you can't show the dealer you weren't texting about the hand and then expect to be allowed to text.

It's not a rule that certain players need to follow but other players get some sort of a waiver. If they don't wanna follow the rules they won't get dealt in.

I've never played at a casino where being on the phone during a hand was not allowed. So while maybe you have had that experience of being told not to be on the phone, it has personally never happened to me.

So under that assumption, if players are abusing that right then they can be told to stop texting each other. The suggestion of offering to show the phone to make sure people are texting was in the context of people discussing whether or not a casino could compel players to show their phone. No, they can't compel players to show their phone, but the players could offer to show their phones as an act of good faith.

You should know that was the discussion since you said this:

No one can demand to see your phone. It's against the law, they would need a search warrant from a judge. Even if a cop pulls you over he can't ask for your phone to see if you texted anyone.

pre covid I could list more than 20
haven't been in but 3-4 since and they all enforce the rule and will grab and muck your hand if you fail to comply

I wouldn't want it going on at my table.
I agree^

If you have been in more than a few, I suspect you have been in casinos where being on the phone was against the house regs/rules. It is just that the rule was not enforced while you were there.

I don’t doubt that it never happ3ned to you. But I also don5 doubt it was not supposed to be allowed.

Maybe things are just different in LA. I've worked at a casino and been a reg at a couple other casinos and never seen anyone be told to stop using their phone during a hand.

I was playing the other weekend in Florida and the dealer asked the player to get off his phone. The player kept ignoring the dealer so the dealer just started dealing him out. The player got upset and everyone laughed.

Ha ha, I imagine everyone laughing like it sometimes happens in The Simpsons when literally everyone laughs (even Marge and Lisa) while it's otherwise a tense moment.

When I tell someone "English only at the table please." they will sometimes tell me what they were saying.

Am I supposed to say "Oh sorry, you don't have to use english at the table."?

I never said that it's ok to show what you were texting and expect to continue.

I think his point is that someone can explain what they are doing without necessarily trying to get the rules to not apply to them.

I was agreeing with you.

And sharing something that your post reminded me of.

In that case it’s a bad point. They are telling you what they are saying because they don’t want you to think they are cheating.

I don't think they're cheating. Just enforcing the rules.

It's my job to make sure the other players at the table know they're not cheating.

What are the 20 rooms? I’m genuinely curious - I’ve played in dozens and have never come across the rule, much less a room that will grab your hand and muck it if you fail to comply.

In Canada, Playground and Casino de Montréal are like that.
Pretty sure many more are like that too.
