I gave up my 20 year career as a software developer (sitting all day at a computer). I want a complete career change and poker is in simple terms just fun. So the starting position is a poker clerk, who manages the wait list, sells/buys chips, high-hands, etc.

I'm on my feet all day. What are some good suggestions that others have tried. There is a "Anti-Fatigue Standing Comfort Mat" (rather worn down) where I stand when in front of the computer screen. That feels good sometimes when I've been off it for a while.

A foot massage every 2 hours would be heaven but not possible.

My current shoes are these: https://www.walmart.com/ip/TredSafe-...idth/771304854

I'm sure I can do without the slip resistance, if I could get better support.

They can be hard to find locally but if you have a Merrell store near you see if they have any of their travel shoes:

They're basically walking/light hiking shoes disguised as dress shoes. Now that I know my size I can usually find replacements on Ebay for $40-50. They last me about a year and are very supportive. They're also waterproof which can come in handy if you're working somewhere that makes you park in an uncovered lot.

Also, if you're planning on becoming a dealer now is the time! There are dealer shortages all across the country right now so it's much easier than normal to get a spot. Texas is insane at the moment.

I walk about 5 miles/day when I work. I wear a pair of all-black Nike sneakers. These cost $90, but they're excellent for walking and they last.

Most men I know on their feet for long periods but needing dress shoes tell me they love florsheim shoes.

Good to hear. I have no formal casino dealing experience but as part of my hiring and taking this bottom-of-the-barrel job, they offered to train me. Probably in 3-6 months. Once I'm confident that I'm good and experienced, I be looking to move to a Caesars property in Vegas or a better location if one exists.

Also, thanks for the shoe recommendation.

The only good thing about being a poker dealer in Vegas is if you want to play when you get off work. Otherwise I'd pick almost any other city.

Getting free training is good. Good luck!

Is there some back story to go along w/ what must be a steep drop in income?

As for comfortable, all day on your feet shoes you can't do better, imo, than any of the very expensive Mephistos.

It just so happens that today is my birthday. My mom just also called to see how my first week went. She said she'll send me some money for shoes. I didn't even bring it up, I just said I'm on my feet most of the day. Now whether it's $10 or $200, it's the thought that counts

You want a shoe (not a sneaker) that's black and doesn't have a flat bottom or lifted heel. If the support isn't great get some orthotics. You might want to get 1/2 size larger because your feet are going to get some fluid buildup being on your feet for so long.

I'd look into some running/walking shoes that are made for comfort that would blend in with normal attire.

Those in my experience provide the best support and comfort when you are on your feet all day.

Thanks for everyone suggestions. I wound up buying Merrell Men's World Legend 2 (https://www.merrell.com/US/en/world-...-2/45971M.html). I bought a 0.5 size larger as was suggested here or some other internet source. My last day wearing Treadsafe (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Tred-Safe-Axel-II/598668796), I wanted to cut my feet off. I got a text notification that my Merrell's had arrived at my house and I considered asking leave to get them but I endured 4 more hours.

The next day with the Merrell's was simply normal (but a fantastic relief). Only during my 8th hour did my feet start to hurt a bit. When I got home, ripping my shoes off was not the first thing I did

PS: I noticed some people wear loafers, Merrell brand included. Is it a personal preference or ?. I've never owned loafers before.
