I was at an MSPT in late March beating up on a nit filled table along with another guy (the games didn’t get juicy until later at night). Older gentleman, 65+ easily, sitting in the 7 seat of a *yikes* 10 handed holdem game (smh) biggest nit in the room by far. Clearly wealthy wearing Rolex, a couple gold ring a, nice brand of glasses (I don’t wear glasses so idk but you can tell they were expensive).

Throughout the session guy is saying things that clearly mimic how he plays (don’t remember any specifics expect this) unprompted he brings up the question “Anyone here ever fold aces preflop?” Most of the other people at the table look quizzical (even the other nits think this is ridiculous) I catch eyes with the other dude my age (early 30’s) and we know where this is going and coyly smirk to one another. I say “Anyone that has ever folded aces preflop and had it not be in a satellite is a flat out idiot”. OMC “well I have. Did it in a home game when I lost twice with ‘em already, even showed the guy next to me.”

“Why would you ever do that”

“I knew they would lose, and you know what?”

“You would have lost?”

“Guy rivered two pair and I’da lost!”

“Well did you ever consider if you played them correctly he would have never seen the river?”

“Didn’t matter I knew they would lose! Folded ‘em!”

“Well you sir are an idiot, like I stated”

I don’t usually tap the glass but this one was too good. Also I stacked him with bottom pair on the only bluff he tried with total garbage in the most obvious spot imaginable and he stormed off. *Muah*

everyone knows you have to fold AA sometimes, keep your ranges balanced

But you have to fold it face-up.

Finally got something worthy of submission here.
Player to my right, annoying LAG regular in mp, raises to 5500 with about 10k behind in a $50 Sunday afternoon tourney. Folds to LAG in BB, who says "I'm tired of you raising my big blind" and calls.
Flop comes 3d3h5h. BB shoves, MP instacalls, stands up, and slams AJo on the table. BB turns over 57dd. Run-out comes out clean, and MP grants the poker room with such gems as "I can't beat dumb luck" and "well I didn't put him on a 3." He storms off to the cashier (we aren't even close to the money), eventually comes back and continues berating the player who knocked him out. "Play like that and you'll never make a final table," as opposed to calling with air cause you couldn't put your lost opponent on a 3, or a 5, or a pocket pair, or a better ace, or a flush draw, or A4 or A2. To his credit, BB did miss the final table though

are you saying that calling with AJ in that spot is absurd?

Yes. Snap calling to an donk bet for all your chips with ace high? I put bb on a pocket pair myself, but it didn't really matter. MP's image is lag, he's got his opponent on tilt, so of course bb is calling wide pre (not that it was the right move, but you have to know that's possible). And berating your opponent in a $50 buy in is always the wrong move

I am just trying to figure out why you would be running off a single pair hand when you have an overpair.

given the stack sizes, a fold on that board would be absurd. shoving pre would have been the standard play though.
agree on the berating part

I’m still trying to figure out why someone would fold AA pre in a cash game

At the gardens 200nl. Folds to the sb. He is losing 2 dollars regardless. Turns to the BB and asks if he chops. Either way if he throws his hand in he’s not getting any money back.

Of course the BB says play and he throws in a dollar, the guy raises and they see a flop that he check/folds.

3 ways. The sb asked for a chop. Got no money back. I don’t think these people know what a chop is.

I have seen a lot of poker, but this one was the most absurd.

Board is 9h-Th-Jx . Player A bets, player B shoves. Player B shows 78hh while Player A is thinking.

The pot is about $150 and player A has like $100 left.

Player A shows KQo for the nut straight and no lie, tanks for a good solid 3 minutes before FOLDING. Saying he just knows the flush is coming.

Did he rabbit hunt it and then tell himself he made a good fold because the flush came in?

How do you not call clock on player A when he shows the nuts and is tanking to an AI bet and no action behind?

I rarely call clock on people but it’s situations like this or when the action is on a player and they start asking asinine questions to others

Honestly for me, it was just so much of a spectacle I didn't think about clock. Like watching a train wreck, it was mesmerizing.

The place where I play is really harsh with the rules to dealers and they are not supposed to rabbit hunt. The dealer did discreetly do it but only gave a little headshake to player B saying the flush wasn't coming. I dont think player A even saw.

I don't get it. Do they rake the SB automatically or something? So if they "chop" BB gets his money back, but SB doesn't, meaning a chop is the same as open-folding?

Exactly. They take one for rake and one for jackpot, so the sb gets nothing.

Los Angeles rake was strange for me as an east coaster to comprehend.

I know I did something terrible once by LA standards and got groans from the table when i did it but I am still not sure what it was. Somehow I was supposed to fold my small blind or they would rake the pot a lot and key my car or something.
