So in other words the absurd thinking going on is that it is not impressive to go from $27 to $800.

Maybe the absurd thinking is that you shouldn't be happy exploiting bad players?

Built it back up against a drunk shoving ATC to his direct right and a bad player calling off way too light donating to his direct left. Plus a river suckout vs me for $150. I quietly laugh during his speech as he gets colored up and leaves.
Pretty sure if the bolded part wasn't true this post never gets made.

How much of that $150 was you paying him off after the draw got there?

My point was he got his stack up against really crappy opponents. It wasn't skill. Hence I think the sick brag was absurd.

$0. He chased pf and two streets while behind not getting odds, I bet aggressively. He rivered his card, went check check.

/ thread derail

So you're saying there was a huge skill differential? But it wasn't skill?

Look, I see where you think you are coming from, but with ANY skill differential, running up $20 into $800+ at a poker table is still something you don't see very often and the guy pointing out the unlikeliness of the scenario as "hey, that's pretty neat" isn't the same as him bragging and saying "I'm so god damn good at poker, holy **** look at me crush these clowns".

You are the absurd one here.

It wouldn't have been impressive if he hadn't gotten that last $150 against that one idiot.

We need a new poker term for "being significantly better than your opponents," as skill apparently does not cover that.

Sure. $27 to $650 is so much less than $27 to $800.

He sucked out chasing on one hand as part of a very nice heater. Guess what, variance aka luck is part of poker on any given hand. That doesn't deprecate what was done. With or without that one hand a quarter to two full buy ins ain't half bad

I was playing a table full of nits last weekend but the table was friendly and lots of the guys were talking. One of the nits limps in the CO with a good hand and after the hand I ask why he didn't raise and he responds "I didn't like my position".

My response was something like, if you don't like your position i guess you shouldn't. The guy beside couldn't keep quiet though and started making fun of him.

I know this isn't that absurd, but it's better than the previous 15 or so posts

He was taking a shot at the guy. It wasn't a serious post.

Politics. If you really want to deflect a conversation away from poker strategy and the better topics of women, table games, or sports doesn't work ... bring up politics. Someone will have a strong differing opinion from almost any position and an argument can start, or they'll agree and you can circlejerk about it.

Once I was at a tournament table and I don't remember if it was to change the topic or liven up the table, but some younger dude just blurts out "So what's everyone's opinion on abortion?"

I think I was the only one who laughed, but I thought it was hilarious.

And now we have something new from Trump almost every day. Love him or hate him there's *something* new to discuss or laugh at.
