I tried a river bluff on the biggest calling station in the world. I thought he knew that I knew he never folds so he'd think I was super strong. Lol

Home game.

3 players see a flop.

Flop comes 34Jss

Action goes, check, check, bet, call, fold.

Turn comes 34Jss 5s

First player leads out big, and the second player is considering a call.

Buddy next to me slides me the cards he just folded and shows me 67o and says, "man, that was a good fold, I just saved myself a lot of money"

"Huh, how?" I asked.

Buddy looks at me like I'm a moron, gestures at the guy who made the bet and whispers "he obviously had a flush and I would have had a straight. I would have lost a lot of money if I was in"

What's absurd about that? Your friend obviously knew he couldn't lay down a hand to a better one. Seems like he thought it through just fine.

Hmm, I see what you're getting at, but this is leagues above the thinking we are used to seeing in this thread.

Uh he just made a standard fold not drawing to a str8 with flush draw on board. Had somewhat decent reasoning for it

I don't know if I explained it properly.

2 players are in the hand. One has bet, one is tanking.

3rd player who folded on an earlier street and would have completed a gutter on the turn is relieved that he's not in the hand since he is 100% convinced the guy has a flush (no hands have been shown down at this point, but given the action and players tendencies I'd say his read is probably right) therefore he would have lost a lot of money with his straight. The absurd thinking being that it's unthinkae to fold a straight, even when you know you're beat 100% of the time.

Anyway, maybe some of you guys think the same but I found the logic to be quite absurd.

It would have been more absurd to put money in on the flop if he felt that his opponent had more outs than he did (if he felt his opponent was on a flush draw) and then put in calls on the turn and river if he hits a straight that also makes a flush.

"Oh, that's a big bet. I'm positive he has a flush. It's lucky I folded before I hit my straight, otherwise I would have been forced to call 2 streets with my straight even though I'm positive he has a flush because you just can't fold a straight. Dodged a bullet on that one."

Just clarifying for the confused...

He is saying...

If for some dumb ass reason the guy(idiot) had called on the flop and hit his gutshot on the turn the idiot is claiming that he would've had to call whatever was bet because he had a straight. Even though idiot is certain his opponent has a hand that he can not beat nor catch up to, he still would call any bet because he "has a straight".

Yeah, it's one of the more subtle examples of absurd thinking to appear in this thread. I enjoyed it.

Yeah, but, although he showed absurd thinking that he'd have called knowing he was dead, he's one step away from realizing that sometimes you have to fold big hands... it would be very unprofitable to say as anything other than "Oh yeah, you have to keep calling there. Just because he's representing a flush doesn't mean he has it."

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!

Now I get it, thank you for clarifying it

Yes that is indeed absurd.

So in essence; The idiot has the wherewithal to suspect a 3 flush on board can be dangerous, but not the wherewithal to notice that he himself cannot fold a straight in any situation.

Playing a £10r/a at the pub last night.

4 players see a flop of Q73r and it checks round. The turn is the 2d putting 2 diamonds on board. I bet half pot with A7o and get 1 call. The river completes the flush, I check and other player checks behind. I table my hand and the other player mucks his cards and says that's good, I was calling for the flush.

I'm still confused.

Once again we see the ol' Bluff-call in action.

The bluff call! Ah, the epitome of LLSNL creativity. Usually, the 'Bluff Caller' will charm us with a "yep, yer good". Best sound in poker.

Very first lesson I ever learned when playing live. My friend leans over and says, "calling isn't bluffing." Lol.
