How is story in anyway absurd? The guy misread the board and didn't see the straight. Probably happens a few times a night at every card room in the world.

If the board is the complete nuts, *always* ship. You never know when your opponent will make a stupid mistake.

I hope you're not suggesting that an A2345 board is the complete nuts...

But seriously - and this is me never playing hi-lo before - wouldn't a 6 take the hi?

Yes. What I said is ridiculous on many levels. If there were a texas holdem 8 (Never heard of such a game so I am making this up) you could still play the board unlike Omaha, so everyone could simply call your shove and you'd split the low with everyone, possibly losing the high to a 6 or 67.

If there is a split version of texas, I can't find it on the first page of any google results...

I once played crazy pineapple 8 at the Venetian. So I bet there is a Texas hold'em 8.

Some years ago I read a post about a player visiting a home game in which dealer's choice included hi-lo holdem; the poster said it was a terrible game because the hands holding an Ace had a huge edge ...

Lawyer has about 700, both other limpers have 3-400, I have everyone covered. I call, both limpers who called my 20 (surprisingly) fold. Flop is A54r. Lawyer bets 30... I call. Turn is 2, rainbow board. Check check. River is a 3....making a straight on the board. Lawyer checks river quickly, I announce all in. He thinks for a few minutes and then calls. I'm assuming chop, and just flip my 99. He looks at the board, looks back at my hand, then mucks and says good hand. Haha. No one said anything and the pot was shipped to me. He left and the whole table was like...wtf. I said he must have had 77 or 88
Just a PSA: Never say anything. Some people feel like they have to say something either at showdown or during the next hand. Don't do this. During showdown is unethical, and after the hand is over just makes the guy feel dumb and you never want someone to feel dumb at the poker table.

I'm pleasantly surprised that noone ruined it by speaking up. I'd wager that in 95% of home games and well over half of the 1-3 tables I've been at at least one person would have said something.

In a 1/3 game last night, I had As9s and got it in on a 9x2s6s flop against Q9o

Blank on the turn and Qs on the river.

Villain was irate that his 2 pair lost and that I "got there on the river".

This reminds me of a time, driving back after playing a tournament circuit, me and a friend stopped in the middle of nowhere to play at some card room we'd never heard of before.

Very first hand, we missed all the pre-flop action but two players get it all in on the flop for like a $750+ pot. One of the players is a dyed blonde chick who has the mirrored aviators on, beats headphones, hoodie, etc. basically the full My First Cash Game beginner grinder's kit on.

Flop was 348 with two spades. Turn jack river jack, other villain rolls over his hand to show pocket 8s for 8s full of jacks and the nut set on the flop.

She goes "Oh my god I can't believe how bad you play you got there on the river" and stares at her cards, revealing them in the process to our half of the table. She has King of Diamonds, mother****ing Six of Diamonds for complete air with no draw.

My friend and I just exchanged a look like "omg this game is going to be so good".

If OMC turns over the bears cards I think that violates one player to a hand.
OMC can just say "Dealer, show both hands please" every time the bear goes to showdown so he can be sure the bear isn't colluding with any of the other players.
