Was there a significant side pot? That's the only reasoning I would see inorder to do this and even then it needs to be significant like literally doubling his stack he entered the hand with.
I haven't played live recently but when I used to play live on a daily basis, someone said the following about KK. "I swear, the A shows up 80% of the time I have KK when I re raise with it. If I just raise with it and get called, the A dosen't come, but if I 3 bet with it, 80% of the time it shows up. The 20% it doesn't come, they have AA."
