It was posted by the CEO of the Mohegan Sun Casino, Mitchell Etess, yesterday on an in house Q & A forum that the new Poker Room, Casino of the Wind section, and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant will all open Aug 29th. 2008.

This is the first time I have read of an actual date for the opening.

Are they going to have regular B&M tables, or electronic tables only?

All of the descriptions have said 45 tables in the new poker room. They are supposedly putting their current PokerPro tables in there also, and using them as long as there is demand. Not sure if these are part of or in addition to the 45 felt tables.

Rumor says they are going to "cater to the higher limit players" I suggest they spread 2-2nl with a 65$ minimum, and no cap on the buy in!

Does anybody know if they will be charging time (ala Foxwoods) or if they'll have a normal rake?

We got a baby No-Limit game going there for a couple of days before the boom, and they charged us time. I remember thinking that paying $5 a half hour sucks at the time. The etables that they have right now charge time, so I would bet that it will be timed.

This is good news. I actually like Mohegan as a casino overall but I am forced to go to foxwoods to play poker.

Table games department posted a memo on Sunday, again stating, that the poker room is scheduled for opening at the end of August.
The memo also contained answers to a few questions,

Dealers will keep their own tokes.
All Dealers will be trained as Dual-rate supervisors.
All Dual-rate positions will be scheduled fairly and monitored carefully to ensure fairness.
All dealers must complete school, pass audition, and successfully interview for the position, there were a lot of people who signed the interest list.

heard 2 things about the new poker room
1) that its going to be a mix of live and pokerpro tables
2) its going to be all live

this was from the 2 floor people working today, each one had something different to say. I sincerely hope its 1 since I love those tables

I heard, that they will probably keep them as long as they bring in some profit.

I bet no one that you can come into contact with at the casino really knows for sure.
Then even if they did, there could be a last minute change of plans.

I will believe it when I see it. I will be suprised that a place that suffered from corruption would not pool tokes.

Recently at Foxwoods I reversed polarity on my position though. I think I had too many 1/2 sessions where the dealer took more than 20 seconds to deal two cards to nine people.

Well, that's just it. I've always understood that Foxwoods' pooling policy was a n overreaction to the Mohegan scheduling scandal. I guess any policy is preferable to getting your room shut down, but it's always struck me as throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Training them all as dual rate makes sense, I guess. At least as semi-floors they'll get more say in how they're scheduled, avoiding another scandal, right? Or am I misunderstanding things?

I would expect it to take 6 months or less before Mohegan gets all the good Foxwoods poker dealers. FW can either respond by dropping pooling or let its dealers get worse as the good ones leave.

Foxwoods pooling policy has nothing to do with MS, they have been pooling since day one, four years before MS opened.

They are training about 200 dealers in the next three months, school starts on Monday. That doesn't include the dealers who have poker experience. Foxwoods dealers may have to wait longer then 6 months for openings.

I am not sure about how the dual-rate thing is going to go. Still waiting for more info on that.

I guess this is as good a place as the NC thread to drop a rumor. One smart poker regular told me that FW is trying to crush the union that recently got voted on. To do this they are pushing out their experienced staff and hiring people who "aren't likely to unionize" then mentioning that they set up a training place in New York.

I think he was trying to say: expect more immigrant dealers and tips to remain pooled for the time being. A few of my favorite dealers said that they were trying to get jobs elsewhere.

All rumors. No experienced help has ben pushed out and a union cant be crushed unless theres a revote. No re vote is in the works and Foxwoods is still fighting the vote with the whole sovereign nation thng. As for dealers leaving i know of about 50 TG employees who left and went to Vegas over the last year or so. Basically they went for a few reasons. For one its Vegas, another reason is a chance to make quite a bit more money at one of the new casinos. Also CT now has the highest gas prices in the nation right in front of Alaska and Vegas has no ST income tax, car taxes , etc. No ties around here and too much in bills so they said WTF im outta here.

Not necessarily immigrant dealers, but younger dealers are less likely to want to unionize than the old guard. There's a lot of those kids that are fast and stylish and take pride in their dealing skills and yeah, they'd like to keep their own tips, but don't want to pay union dues either.

The new dealers don't matter. The union was voted on and was passed. Foxwoods has tried to disqualify the vote, but it has been certified by the NLRB. After Foxwoods exhaust there appeals and other creative ways to bring this issue to court, they will have to sit down with the dealers and negotiate. The final contract, if Foxwoods keeps losing their legal challenges, is still a long way off. The dealers have to get Foxwoods forced to the negotiations, they have to fight Foxwoods over the MGM tip pool seperation, and of course if Foxwoods is force to the tables they will drag their feet forever.

Just as DQ was talking about. It doesnt matter if someones starts working there next week. Whenever the union contract comes he/she will have no choice and will have to be part of it.

does anyone know if the MS poker room is going to have a per pot rake or a timed rake like FW? I prefer the per pot rake fwiw

They time the 1/2 on the poker pro tables and pot rake the 3-6 lhe.

EDIT A few of the FW dealers said that Mohegan was having open auditions for dealers this week. Most troubling was that they were good dealers and seemed to be suggesting that they wanted to work there.
