Missed blinds.... I’ve always wondered

So you get up from the table, the blinds pass, you sit back down when you’re in MP and if you want back in you have to post your blinds.

But if you just wait a few more hands till the BB comes back to you, you just post your BB as normal and never pay the missed blinds.

I have never understood this logic. If you’re supposed to pay for the blinds you missed, how can you get out of that by entering at a specific spot?

Re: Missed blinds.... I’ve always wondered

You are not paying for missing the blinds, you are paying for avoiding the blinds. Paying the blinds is the "cost" of getting the "free hands" from CO to UTG.

You were just UTG and now in the BB position. Should you be able to sit out three hands and then get a hand in the CO for free? Of course not. Otherwise everybody would do it and the game would end.

So you cannot avoid the blinds and "get hands for free".

If you wait until the BB comes around to you again and you take the blinds, you no longer are avoiding the blinds. You are paying your dues for the 'free hands' that come after taking the blinds.

Ahh that makes sense. I was thinking of them more as a time charge than a hand charge.

Yes .. It's an 'orbit' charge. You pay for each orbit regardless of where you take your first hand.

It is amazing to me the number of folks who will leave on their Button after just paying the blinds. Some act as though it's an obligation. I usually leave 2-3 hands after the Button whereas lots of regs will leave after they are UTG to maximize the orbit they paid for.

Also remember that some rooms will make you post if you seat change more than 2 seats 'away' from the Button. So if you are UTG and decide to move to LJ/HJ then you would be required to post your first hand in that seat or wait until you pay your blinds and pay your Button. Not recommended though, since a player who wants to sit down wont like it while you play 2-3 hands before you move. GL

These people have always cracked me up.

Also the guy who plays his blinds and misses his button for a smoke and posts behind.
Button moves and everyone loses a free hand, the smoker loses several.

He doesn't post. He just screws up the blinds and loses free hands.

Re: Missed blinds.... I’ve always wondered

There is 'new' reason for this now ... I've now seen in at least three casinos where if a player DOES NOT have a missed blind button then they still get a table share of a BBJ when not dealt into the hand.

This is especially important in Detroit right now where the table share is over $400K right now!! There is no room share in that room either ... 40-20-40 with best case is 4-handed BBJ. GL

"40-20-40 with best case is 4-handed BBJ."

So a table share can be as large as the "winner's" share? All the other table only places I have played (not games shares or room shares) have had a 50/25/25 split which guarantees the two BB hands get more than anyone else.

But the behavior is common even where their is no BBJ.....

I've even had players getting up in early position putting out blinds to post while they are away rather than get a missed blind button.

I knew a guy who would always wait until he was UTG to go home... but he'd always straddle his last hand.

I don't know if this is a universal rule, but places I've been at require at least five players dealt in to qualify for the bad beat.

Definitely not universal. Here it is definitely min tour dealt in. And while I don’t specifically worry about bbjp rules, i can’t recall playing anywhere requiring five. But as I said I am not chasing the bbjp so I don’t always ask all the rules. I figure playing my hand as I intend to will be fine and the refs will ensure enough players are in
