if its for a bathroom break just leave them there.

if your gonna be gone for more than 30 minutes to grab a bite to eat then just cash out and rebuy when you come back.

i heard several stories of drunk railbirds walking up to an emtpy seat with chips and blowing the whole stack. the casino isn't responsible for it.

As for breaks, like has been mentioned, show courtesy for others and if your going to be gone longer than to take a smoke and dump a load, pick up and leave. How rude can you be to leave your stack while you go out for a steak, tying up a seat? If the game's so juicy, freaking stay and play. The game'll get a little less juicy when some ass-hat leaves for dinner. It'll get allot less juicy with two tied-up seats.
yeah, i play at delaware park too like OP, i remember some 40 yr old guy took an hour-15min dinner break which really annoyed the whole table. he shoulda cashed out to let a new player sit in.

You'd be surprised.

I play at Del Park- I leave the table to watch/wager races all the time. No one likes it, but they never steal my chips./

Wow such differing posts.

I used to be paranoid about leaving chips on the table, but
I got over it. I've never had any trouble.

But now...this thread scares me. Still I'm not going to worry
when I run to the bathroom.

It really depends on how large and sketchy the room is that you are playing at.

When I play at a small, local room of like 8 tables I regularly leave the casino with no problems. Trips are under an hour usually out to local bar to grab a bite and grab some air.

At my home casino which is 20 tables I've never had issues. If I will be gone a while I will get a dinner ticket which is good for an hour. People can then play over my stack.

Longest I've been away from table was 2+ hours. Didn't get picked up or anything but it helps to know the floor and people in the game. It is a bit rude but meh... if I have a meal ticket u can just play over.

Upon request, some casinos will provide acrylic chip covers if you are getting a dinner ticket or going to be gone for a while.

No reason to worry. Just always know your count.

make your chips harder to steal or get misplaced and return to the table according to the house rules. if they allow and hour for dinner take it if you choose, that is the policy for all.

grunch.

if cash plays, i would announce that you are taking X amount off the table and will return with it when you come back. i'm very skeptical about leaving cash on the table.

There is nothing worse than a player who plays a few hands, gets up, walks around the casino, bull****s with the locals, sits back down, plays two more hands, then does it all over again. I had this happen up at charles town, wva and he did this for ~6 hours or so, basically tying up the seat with no action. I know there is not much you can do about it but it gets annoying after a while.

Completely ridiculous, considering Charles Town charges $6 per half hour and has no BBJ. Why is this dude wasting his money?

usually the walkers are tight players or good players and then you get a bigger cut of the pie. especially if you have some speed to your play and like less than a full table.
its bad when a live one is next on the list. but then if this guy stayed the seat wouldnt be open anyway.

Where will they let you do this? I think the generic rule is nothing is allowed on the table that's larger than a playing card.

So you can know exactly how much was stolen that the casino is not responsible for replacing? Having an exact count won't help you.

They give us 1 hour breaks, if I have been playing for 4 plus hours, you can be damn sure I will take my one hour break, and if you cry about it, I will get you a tissue

Also been playing plus 12 years in casinos and never once have had a problem with someone taking chips from me.

1 hour break is rediculous, just cash out and come back if your gonna be gone for an hour. i hate people who do this, they have no class.

Well lets see here, when you play where I play and the waiting list is 2 hours deep, the buffet line is 30 min wait, its going to take an hour just to eat. So Cry me a river.

People who complain about absent players might as well wear a sign around their neck that says "I'm a tight player, steal every other pot from me."

no jerry. i complain because theres a 1 hour gap where my table could be filled with another fish, instead its filled with a guys stack and no player.

almost always it's the nutpeddling tight nits that insist on playing a full table and bug the dealer/floor when there is more than 1 empty seat

maybe you're the one exception, but it's unlikely

the short-versus-full-table debate has been done before, but my point here is that bellyaching about empty seats alerts the more observant players at the table that you're a tight player because tight nutpedling players want full tables and LAGs want short tables, at least smart ones do (smart nits want full, smart LAGs want short)

8 handed is not short handed, and plus all or most casinos have 3rd man walking, I admit when your losing when is gets to be 6 handed it gets annoying and when your winning you do not care.

Grunching here, but the dealer should put an absent button in front of your seat and in an ideal world the floor should put an acrylic cover over your chips. It's hard to steal covered chips.

If you want to worry about someone stealing your chips, you might want to watch the dealers while they pull in your chips. MUCH more money is lost there.

Lol... I'm curious as to what % of dealers do this in your estimation? "MUCH more money..." I'm fairly sure both of these are rare in legit poker rooms.
