Careful, AT. That's two now in this thread alone, and we haven't changed any policies yet.

Yes and you would hope that the so-called more sophisticated crowd that frequents live poker would abstain from contributing any more + 1s when there has been at most 3 that have preceded their future post.

I was thinking we should all care about lazy posters contributing nothing but lazy posts, but now that you mention it, allowing +1 posts will provide a record of posters who publish nothing but.

So +1.

"+1" is so effortless that people make those posts more freely.
Well I for one would rather have them just post the +1 as its easy for me to skip right past it acknowledging who it was that agreed with a post rather than read an entire response that just says exactly the same thing I've already read already.

Why are we so concerned about a +1 post? It isn't like it wastes anyones time to have to stop and read it.

For the record, I was under the impression that +1s had been allowed since the B&M-M&B merger and have probably posted it a few times. As a matter of fact, if it's possible to search my posts for "+1" you will probably get an idea of how often I think it needs to be done.

So +1.
You left out a pertinent qualifier from my post: "Reality is that it doesn't take up much real estate and is easily skimmed past."

It's much easier to skim past a "+1" than to skim past a post where there's a nine paragraph quote of a previous post with the illuminating addition of "Yea, I agree. The same thing happened to me in Bulgaria".

A world where people would be considerate enough to delete all (or at least the vast majority) of the text in the 9-paragraph post they quote to say "+1" or "Bulgaria" or whatever you want to put in there is a world I want to live in.

Signal:Noise is optimized with the shortest possible post to express the idea.

Maybe we should just type "1" as people already know you mean a positive number.

.

I've already agreed that a +1 is preferred over a verbose point that says nothing other than "I agree". But there is noise within a post, but also noise in terms of number of separate posts.

I think we will be wrapping this up shortly. If anyone has any additional factors for consideration, please post them soon.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Re: LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

Thanks for everyone's input on the +1 question. Here 's what the policy going forward wii be:

+1 comments are not considered no content posts. They may be made when you feel appropriate. There is one caveat on their use. Users should not post +1 after every post they happen to agree with as a substitute for a Like Button. Rather use them to indicate your agreement for a particular position or post as part of an issue being debated. Use common sense in determining if using the +1 post will really contribute to the thread in some manner.

We will not delete any +1 posts so we can see how this works out.

Thanks again to all of you who provided your opinions in a positive manner.

That's a fair question and it may have seemed that way to you. But actually I deleted just one of yours that followed my warning, and i also deleted his response to yours. You may not have seen it as i happened to be in the thread when it was posted, so it was just up for a minute.

I mostly meant the ones before the warning.

If it's as simple as, "only posts after the warning were deleted," that's fine. I just wanted to know the rationale, new overlords and whatever.

That's what happened. I just posted the warning as it looked like things were starting to get a little personal. So I didnt delete those before that, just a little verbal course correction. But then it escalated a bit and I just deleted those two posts.

I love that this came down to ratifying an amendment to the B&M (lol LCP?) constitution that basically just says "Use common sense and do things in moderation"

1. be nice, everybody.

2. if you've ever participated in an unmoderated forum, you probably have experienced that leaving everything to the users common sense rarely ends well.

3. I get the discomfort with the name change. Shortly after I entered the Army, they changed mess halls to dining facilities. Twenty years later I still had to catch myself from calling them mess halls.

Re: LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

I was going to post this on the Horseshoe thread, but this seems like a more appropriate place. I might be misunderstanding the privacy policy. Recently a bunch of posts were deleted from the Horseshoe thread citing the privacy policy and negative unsubstantiated claims. I thought the privacy policy was only in regards to naming names or describing people, neither of which happened there. I'm not sure how the privacy policy was violated. Posting "unsubstantiated claims" seems to be one of the hearts of 2p2. I mean, I'd like to know if there are crazy floor rulings in rooms I visit frequently. Are posting these things not allowed? How do we substantiate? Or are we just not allowed to criticize anything in the venue forums? Can someone clarify please?

Re: LCP Moderation Discussion Thread (guidelines in post #1)

Regarding the Horseshoe posts, I guess I'm not sure how one could substantiate criticism without violating the privacy policy. I know exactly who it happened to, but I can't say that. I can find out what floor did it, but I can't say that. Short of the room manager coming on and saying, "Yes that happened," what will suffice as substantiation?

I don't remember exactly what posts were deleted because it was a couple months ago and it's not like I can go look at them.
