A guy who posts almost exclusively in the Beginner's forum and who just got done shaming people for bringing a granola bar to the casino to eat more frequently than every 10 hours should not be advising a 19-year-old to turn poker pro over pursuing a career. That crosses from annoying and offensive to mildly dangerous.

While I agree that both the advice and the source are dubious, do you really want Rapini judging the qualifications of advice givers in this forum?

Still, a man hears what he wants to hear.
And disregards the rest.
And how often has someone asked for advice in this forum when they were actually demanding validation?

Saying nothing about the specific post in question, I would agree that the antidote to bad content is more content, not moderation. But please be careful to address the content itself, not the poster personally.

Moreover, if you think a post requires moderation, please report it using the report button.

Yeah, this guy will likely do what he's gonna do no matter how much good advice he gets.

I think you should call him out directly in the thread not only regarding why his advice is bad, but also in the context of all the other bad advice/posts he's given/made and give concrete examples of those (with links if you want to go the extra mile to be super-helpful). Establishing a pattern of bad posting and/or bad advice isn't the same thing as an ad hominem attack in my opinion and would be a fine way of countering his bad advice.

I agree that good content to counter bad content is what's needed if the bad content isn't really violating the guidelines.

I don't think any of us want that.

I must have had a post removed from a thread since there are a couple of comments from other posters that could only have happened if they had read my post. If a post is being edited or deleted please have the common courtesy of notifying the poster so that they don't make the 'mistake' in the future.

It's pretty disheartening to put some time into something and then feel like an 85 year old who can't find his keys on the counter. And to have references to something that you posted and now can't even 'defend' it anymore ... Well, sir, here's your bullets but we're out of guns today ... GL

PS .. I stand corrected (to a certain degree) ... The references were in one thread but the original 'comment' was in another thread. My apologies ... but I still think it would be good policy. Unfortunately it would create more work for the Mods and open the door to a possible back and forth exchange of opinion on the validity of the 'edit'.

Do you know what thread it was in and when (even approximately) you posted?

All is good .. I found 'my keys' (the original post) in a different thread. The 'referencing' post was in a different thread than the original comment. The poster must have had my original comment in the back of their mind when commenting in a different thread.

Sorry for being a little touchy this morning. I should have done my 'key word' search before posting above. I have had a couple posts removed from threads before 'with cause' and couldn't initially grasp what may have been the issue with this one ... and apparently there isn't. GL

Just click the little link in their quote of your post. It will take you to the original post, if it hasn't been deleted. No search needed.

While I agree it would be nice if we were to notify every poster every time we moderate something, we don't do this for a number of reasons: it is time consuming, it is hard to do on mobile devices, it invites argument, and both the moderation rules and our process for doing so is clearly explained in stickied posts.

Finally, thank you for asking your moderation question here. I've noticed other posters asking inside of other threads. If I am on my phone, it is too much work to do all the editing required to put it in the right place and then answer it, so I end up just ignoring them. Caveat emptor.

I will usually message a poster if I deleted their post due to violating marketplace policies, because they may not be aware that there is a designated forum for that and/or that you need to apply for permission to post there. Beyond that, I'd guesstimate that 98% of my deletion reasons are obvious to the poster, so there's no need to contact. And frankly I'm not too active these days moderating, so when I do it's only obvious stuff anyhow.

You've taken a number of things out of context, but I do apologize you took such offense to that post.

I post mostly in the Beginner forum not because I am a beginner, but I have some self perspective that I'm not very good at the game and there isn't a "playing for a while but not very good at the game forum".

This isn't the place to rehash the discussion about backpacks in the poker room, but your recap is not close to what I said.

Understand my post you quoted comes from the perspective of a guy who has given his entire working life to corporate america. I'm close(ish) to retirement and CERTAINLY understand that that job has given me the security it has, but I also know I can look back and wish I did something else for all those years. I know I didn't enjoy them.

You are correct, it is not advisable to tell a 19 year old to chuck everything and play poker for a living. I'm pretty sure I said "if you are able" and I know not many are.

Would I take half my earnings, half my 401K and half my pension to instead have done something I enjoyed? Yes, AINEC.

Again, I apologize my post offended you, it was not meant to.

What would everyone think of the following redesign?

> Live Poker [This would be simply the title of the section like Two Plus Two, Fantasy Sports, General Poker, etc., and not a forum.]
Rules & Etiquette
Venues
Communities [This forum would combine threads from Regional Communities and MTTc and also allow for trip reports, low-content threads, etc.]
Home Poker

if it's traffic that 2p2 is trying to increase by making these changes, with all the new sub forums on one specific subject, I don't see people going in and out of each one of them on a regular basis, which will probably in turn slow down traffic instead of increasing it.

That change would decrease the number of sub forums, not increase them.

it looks like the subjects of the new sub forums will be more narrow and not be as broad to cover more topics as it is now.

I moderated your post, and several replies to it. Below is the rule section that was violated. Note that it is a special rule for that thread which is listed in the OP, not a general forum rule:
Quote:
Because of that, it is primarily for the use of poker room employees only. Others may post in it, should they have a particular piece of information or fact that will contribute positively to a discussion going on in there. But it is not a place for nonemployees to argue with dealers or floors about their rulings, insert themselves into employee to employee discussions, or target or attack any decisions discussed in there.
Your post, which I will quote here in part, is an obvious violation of this thread rule:

Why did you delete the relevant discussion? Can we have that without posting the video? It's seriously relevant to the poker scene in the area.

Or was it because Johnny didnt wany anyone else to see it? Gives room a bad reputation I'm assuming. Crazy how he had no input on it.

in that case i wouldve appreciated it if the thread about me wouldve never been started either, and permanently deleted from your website. at least this didnt create issues for him or use his name in the title.
