Sure they do. With input and detail from others.

So he should try to trick them into thinking he was only banned for 1 year?

"They basically had no clue" means the security guard was probably new and didn't have the list of banned patrons memorized and clearly didn't recognize him. Once the OP sent it up the chain people that knew more acted. Which does mean that theoretically he could have just walked in and gotten lucky that day. But as OP said, he's risking it in case someone does recognize him or he hits a jackpot. Normally I don't think that leads to an arrest if the patron leaves upon request after the discovery. I have had players come up to my desk to get on the poker list that I have to research in the back of my head or look up in the system to see if they're banned. If they are, I let security and the casino manager handle it. Normally those players leave quietly because they know they shouldn't be there.

The 100x on craps bets refers to the limit on what you can bet for odds bets, not the payout. The highest odds bet payout is 2x, nowhere near the reporting range. I think the highest payout I've seen in craps is 150x or thereabouts for some of the esoteric firebet/roll em all bets.

There are different ID/picture/SSN rules that casinos must follow at different dollar thresholds. $10k is a big one and is federal. Basically protects against money laundering. I know our casino has 3k and 8k rules, but I can't remember at the moment if that's just us or if it's federal or state law. We have to take training every year on it but some of the details escape me each time. I know enough to pass the test!

Back to the original OP though, I advocate writing a letter and being honest. My guess however is that you're not exactly the saint you portray yourself to be. If the other player was clearly that antagonist as you say, and your record is "clean" I would be surprised that you would get a lifetime ban. But as others said, your avoiding of the security staff when they wanted to talk to you about it means a lot, both as to your percentage of guilt in the situation at hand and your attitude and respect of authority in general.

But good luck to you.

The problem with leaving a casino when they want to talk with you is that whatever ban they were about to impose won't start until you go back in. So if you get a 24 hour ban and then come back 3 weeks later, your 24 hour ban starts when you arrive.... Seriously.

Also, given that there were witnesses at the time and the other guy was flat out insane and that you could argue that you were assaulted first and were only defending yourself (a point that is arguable I know) it would have been much better to have stayed and taken your medicine.

Anyway, best of luck to you.
Sure the ban won’t start until you go back in, but does it really matter that much? The only thing we know is this place gives lifetime bans; we don’t even know if they ban anyone for a year or for 24 hours.

We don’t even know if security wanted to talk. A likely reason to approach the OP is they wanted to ban him for life and had all the information they needed. Or maybe they talk, and they still ban him for life because he looks pretty bad in this situation.

They would just look him up in their system and notice he has a lifetime ban. They had no clue who he was but once he gave them his info he was pretty much done at that place.

I don’t know which LA cardroom is the one in question but I’ve spent plenty of time in all of them, and the chances of there only being lifetime bans available are slim to none. I’ve seen people get turfed for random numbers of days. Also, I would surmise that the path to a lifetime ban in any LA room I know would be extraordinary. They are incredibly lenient. LA is not Vegas.

My hunch is that there isn’t one person at the room in question that knows or remembers that OP is banned, and the only way this would come up is if he’s in a database that gets flagged.

Interesting. But they actually did give the OP a lifetime ban though. That part is clear.
