Noticed a ton of hud apps for tablets and smart phones for live cash and tourney play but do players actually sit and type and the nessary info to get the hud info during live sessions? Thanks

First of all, anyone who claims such an app is a HUD doesn't know what HUD means.

Second - you would probably get someone complaining that person using the app was cheating somehow - or slowing the game down.

I have (rarely) seen people using smartphones or tablets (or paper and pen) to take notes during games, but I have never seen anyone actually using them during a hand like an HUD.
I think that this would be difficult to do, and would soon attract attention from other players, and would probably be against the rules almost everywhere. It would also be somewhat difficult in a live game to generate sufficient sample sizes for the info to be very helpful.
Perhaps others have had a different experience?

Yes, there are people who keep VPIP/PFR stats on their live opponents by recording (almost) every hand. As far as I know, they do not have these stats projected on the inside of their glasses, which is what it would take to technically make it a HUD.

Yeah I sat next to a dude once who was using one called Donkey Tracker. It was really basic, just had seats 1 to 9 listed with fold/call/raise buttons next to each one. He just clicked the appropriate button each hand and displayed VPIP/PFR stats. I don't think it was really useful but it was interesting to see how attrociois my (and everyone else's) live stats are.

I used this a couple times and then was convinced on this forum it was at least potentially cheating, so I stopped.

The reason it's called a donkey tracker is bc the donkey is the one using it

I don't think live poker HUD's have been invented yet. Give it about 100 years for the hud glasses with face recognition to come out,

For the time being, live poker players are very easy to read and remember them by face.

I have seen this app online, and one other like it, but have not downloaded it.
They look pretty clumsy to use. I have not seen anyone using them at the table (yet).
HUD's ruined (or at least changed negatively) online poker for many of us. I really dread the day when (if) they become practical (and legal) to use in live poker.

We have all the technology we need right now to make HUD glasses. Face recognition software is strong enough as of today, powerful processors can fit into ipod sized devices and we can project lights onto the inside of glasses.

What's stopping it is that it's unlikely to be worth developing and marketing financially speaking, especially given the immediate backlash from players and casinos when 'cheater glasses' are being sold on the open market. But it will happen and possibly quite soon IMO...I'd be surprised if there aren't any prototypes out there today.

Would love to sit at a table with 8 people using an app like this.

Are you on Facebook? If yes, do you occasionally upload pictures? If yes, did you notice how Facebook is able to automatically tag friends in your pictures?

If it wasn’t an absurd violation of privacy laws and a waste of money, Google/Amazon/Apple/Walmart could develop a device that not only recognizes half of the players at the table by name but also show where they are from, their age, their job / educational level and a pretty decent estimate of household income. Based on that information, your HUD would even be able to show if a player is a potential “fish”.
