I have a lockbox at Foxwoods. They are easy to get. Ask about them at the Poker Cashier Window. There is a $50 refundable deposit, and you have to use your box once a month. They give you two keys, and when you return the keys, you get the deposit back. If you don't use your box during any month, they will send you a notice (maybe several). I am not sure exactly what the procedure is if you do not respond to the notice.

depends on the casino and the time of day.

but any normal large casino, as many hundos as I can fit in my pocket. 15k?

I once walked out with 35k, but I did NOT feel comfortable. I felt like the bulkiness of the money was a liability.

Can't you take your chips with you? That's what I usually do.
Do you leave your car parked in the casino's lot? If so, I'm assuming you have to hop on the lifts or something. You can stand around for like a minute, while on your phone or whatever, make sure no ones waiting about, trailing you etc.
Best thing would be to open an account with the casino, if possible. No more worries.

use casino chips. bigger the better (seeing as the bigger the chip the more security the cage uses in regards to cashing it)

can also maybe play it off as being tournament chips?

chips are easy to put in smaller pockets/areas of your backpack etc. also have a dummy stack with you (or just a regular amount in your wallet).

I don't think walking around Foxwoods with $4,000 makes you that big a mark, even in the poker room. The 75/150 stud players probably carry 3x that and there are some high rollers in the pits that carry more.

It's also a big enough property that any varied route to the valet will give you ample opportunity to see if you're being followed.

I've walked around with > 5k and it hasn't bother me. I've also walked to my car, gotten in and immediately locked the doors with < 1k. Depends on the situation and it's highly subjective to the person. most 1/2 players probably would feel unsafe with the amount of money a 5/10 player needs to carries around. 25/50 players probably feel fine carrying around what a 5/10 player carries around.

Take all the precautions you need to feel safe.

- Ask Foxwoods about lock boxes.
- don't walk straight from the cage to your car, make it a habit to have 5-10 minute detours
- park valet
- if parked in a lot, ask security to walk with you
- park in well lit areas, close to the casino, preferably near security cameras
- on your way home, usually early into the drive, drive around a block. If someone follows you around it, drive to a police station.

it's all pretty much just common sense really.

Just shave your head and hit the gym OP like me. They won't bother you.

But seriously I would just either use valet if you're worried , get security or get a check.

Since many people recommend the valet, here's a security related derail. How safe is the stuff in your car when you use a valet? I usually have things like sunglasses, phone charger, some loose bills from change from drive thrus, maybe a spare baseball hat or sweatshirt. Do you just leave that stuff in the car and it's no problem, or do people who use valet plan ahead and remove all that stuff? Seems like that would be a PITA to remove that each day you go to the casino.

Obviously if the choice is between getting your winnings ripped off or the car stuff, you'd go with the car stuff. But is that even an issue? I remember reading somewhere that they recommended not leaving your car registration in the car so they couldnt get your home address and know when you're out.

So is there a real threat there or is valet no problem?

You can see the J Lot from the doors of the poker room. Where the hell are you parking?

if i valet, i usually take note who drives my car away and write a quick description in my phone and then whoever brings it back is usually a little easier to remember. i do a quick recon when i get in (as i would recon the exterior also for scratches/dents). if anything is missing, i would just talk to the manager.

a valet at a nicer place hopefully has enough foresight to realize the EV of his job is higher than the EV of (my sunglasses + no job) to dissuade them from having sticky fingers on most things, especially if they are fairly inexpensive.

obv though, i tend not to leave straight cash in my car, other than spare change, and i usually try to leave minimal stuff that could easily be stolen. many cars have valet keys and lockable glove boxes, so use when possible. i wouldnt worry about phone chargers/hats/random clothing. those things have very little real world aftermarket value.

not leaving the registration where someone could access it is solid advice. one can never be too careful.

Not that any valet would ever choose me as their target, but I would have never thought of this!

How would a valet know how much cash you were carrying? How would somebody else on the property know to call a valet crony if he saw you cash out?

Not sure if you were refering to my question. I wasnt connecting the cash out issue to the valets. I was just wondering if anyone had problems with valets taking random stuff left in your car.

As to the registration address thing, that article was talking about getting setup for a home breakin while you're at the casino, not related to a known cash out. Just a regular breakin to steal stuff.

either way, i dont think it's that inconceivable that a valet could be a criminal to gain access to you car/keys/address, while also working with a spotter in the casino.

i'm not saying it happens regularly, but if i read about it in a paper, i wouldnt find it outlandish

Understood. I don't leave anything I don't want to lose in the car, and I don't drive an expensive enough car for some valet to think "lets rob this fat cat while he's gambling"

And that would only be duable if the valet knew that you lived alone. And, then they'd have to rely on you leaving large sums of money in your house, which, is not common for poker players to do. I suppose they can be looking for just material things, hopefully for them you don't have a couple of hungry Rottwielers waiting in the foyer.

To answer your original question regarding the safety of your articles that are left in your car---my response to you is this: anything's possible.

I've never had a problem using valet and I leave all sorts of stuff in my car(including loose change and fairly expensive sunglasses) and, I've been valet parking my car for over 25 years.

Compared to Atlantic City, Philly, Baltimore, Vegas and LA, it is not a stretch to say Foxwoods is BY FAR the safest place to carry cash. They offer valet in three locations, a parking lot viewable from poker room exit, and one of several parking garages is about 300 yards away from room. On top of that Foxwoods in the middle of no-where, with no city or even a highway within 10 miles of it. Your cash is more at risk at the table than it is walking around Foxwoods.

Agreed. I expected this thread to be about LA or something and was surprised to see Foxwoods mentioned.

No doubt there have been incidents in CT, but I didn't think people worry about it.

Thanks for the feedback on valets. In all the trips I've made to the casino, I've never valet parked and had no idea if people left stuff in cars or not.

/valet derail.

I've never had a problem with valet.*

* The fine print:

- I've never valeted at a casino, only restaurants and hotels.

- I only valet at super nice restaurants (e.g., the last one was the Restaurant at Meadowood) and hotels (e.g., Ritz-Carlton).

- I drive a Prius. I wash it once every two years or so. And yes, I realize how ridiculous it looked when I pulled up to Meadowood in a dirty Prius with a sparkly Lamborghini behind me.

- I keep zero electronics in the car, not even a cell phone charger or electronic toll pass. No fancy sunglasses, either. I keep a pair of clip ons, but used to have one of those dark glasses inserts they give you at the ophthamologist's when they dialate your pupils. Mad balla.

- I live in Oakland and park on the street so once or twice a week my car passes the "would a teenager smash my car's window for the value of my car's contents" test.

I only gamble when out of town. Since I tend to drink excessively when out of town, I always hire a driver/limo. I'm also prone to carrying a fair number of fun tix, but always leave credit cards in the room safe in case some of my pals coerce me into places that have scantily clad women and work at establishments that have "relaxed" standards as to what they put on your plastic.

Pre-tipping the driver has borne fruit on at least a couple of occasions.
