Had to spend the last 5 months actually working so missed my Fall poker trip. Made a run to Lake Michigan this weekend and stopped at 3 places.

Shark Tank in Columbus - Sunday afternoon at 3pm they were running a tournament but no cash going until 7pm or so. Seemed like a nice place so will try again. Got a chip but didn't play.

Grand Casino in Indianapolis - saw on Poker Atlas they had a room with 10 or so tables. Should have read the fine print as they are electronic - even the table games are electronic so no chips to be had - bah - drove an extra 150 miles for nothing.

Firekeepers - had stopped there several years ago but there were no games going. Stopped on Monday and played 1-2 nl for an hour or so. Already had the chip.

Haven't updated in a few years, so here we go. Chip collecting for me has become more of an afterthought of my travels compared to the focus it was for the first few years. I still try to grab chips along the way during road trips and new live MTT stops, but I rarely go out of my way to get new chips and don't really plan trips centered around new casinos anymore. That being said, in September I did make the pilgrimage up to Dawson City, Yukon and collected chips on my journey north and following that, south to Vancouver. The road trip to the northernmost casino in the world and the oldest casino in Canada was easily one of my personal highlights in 2017. Had looked forward to it for years, and finally took the plunge when a friend from home, also a chip collector, wanted to do the trip with me.

My 2018 will begin in Australia for the Aussie Millions. I expect to pass 200 rooms played in during the early part of the year.

Awesome list - I am jealous as I have only 17 Canadian and only 1 actually overseas - Barcelona. How do you find poker rooms in say Cambodia? Are there generally multiple games going? Stakes? Do you have language issues? Just submitted my passport for renewal so I will be able to fly to Vegas this summer (thanks PA lawmakers) so maybe I will enlarge my range. Congratulations.

Cambodia was really easy actually. The travel forum on 2p2 was where I made my initial connection and found the Riverking. When I was there they ran a 5/5 PLO and a 1/2/5 NLH with 1k max buyin. I’ve since been told they also added a smaller 1/1 game, and games also run regularly at Naga. I’m hoping to head back there after Australia and play the Riverking game again. Language is never an issue, many people in the game are expats from USA/UK etc so English only at the table is enforced. Even in countries where English isn’t the first language most locals are happy to switch to English to accommodate you in my experience.

Some places were entirely word of mouth; like Royal Casino in Vrsac, Serbia. It was essentially a private game run in the corner of a sports betting shop. The only way I was able to stumble upon it was through an ex-student of mine who I had coached for SNGs online. We reconnected when I found out he was backpacking through the Balkans and invited me to visit his hometown and to his game.

I used to run a blog on PG&C forum here, documenting each room as I passed through. However, I haven’t updated it in nearly two years as I’ve lost the motivation to keep it active. I still keep my own personal records of chips collected, and keep my cases full of chips stored at my parents’ place while I mostly live out of a suitcase.

Spring Poker Trip
Took advantage of being in Michigan to stop at 4 rooms in the Detroit area, drove home the long way to hit 1 in Canada and then to try the 4 new rooms in upper New York State –

Motor City Casino – action seemed good but worst cage management I have ever seen.

MGM Grand – nice room.

MoMos – charity room in Taylor. Learned that they were subjected to an armed robbery in 2016. Scary parking lot at night. Interesting crowd.

Krazy Kopz – charity room in Westland that is attached to a bowling alley. Seemed well run. Found out that with charity rooms there is a daily cap on how many chips they can sell. Got there around 11 and they only had about $3k left. Waited an hour to get into a game and just got under the wire. Didn’t stick around long enough to find out what happens after they hit the limit. Assume if you bust out you can’t rebuy.

Caesar’s Windsor – was there 10-12 years ago but no games were going. Had planned on playing there but learned they went on strike. Did cross into Canada to cut across to upper New York State. I must have crossed the border 15-20 times before and all they ever did on the Canadian side was look at my id and wave me through. This time I was interrogated for about 5 minutes about where I was coming from, going to and what I had in the car. Thanks Obama.

Niagara Fallsview – another place I have been previously but no game at the time. Stopped on Saturday and found out they recently closed the room and moved everything to Casino Niagara.

Casino Niagara – read a couple of reviews on Poker Atlas to the effect that this is the worst run poker room in North America. I can confirm that. Never saw such an unhappy staff – from the shift manager all the way down to the waitresses – nobody wanted to do anything except try and piss off the players.

Del Lago at Waterloo/Tioga Downs/Rivers in Schenectady/Resorts World – all new rooms but nothing particularly memorable about any of them. Resorts is upstairs and away from the casino action – feels like a cave. Rivers room is right by the door and felt open. In all cases many of the players are semi poker literate. A lot of $40 preflop bets in 1-2 games with hands like A4 off just to get the blinds. Works well until they run into a real hand.

Back from annual WSOP trip with nothing much to say. Quickly out of $1,500 Dealers Choice, made Day 2 of Horse and almost to Day 2 of 8 game. Cashed 2 small tournaments at the Orleans. Had a couple of good runs at GN and Binions.

I did play at the new room at the Westgate for the first time. Nice layout right by the sports book. When there on a Thursday afternoon about 1:30 not realizing that it was Trooper Day starting at 2 pm. They only had a single game going but had a Trooper list of about 55 for 1/3. I didn't figure this out until later so was only on the list for the 1/2 that was going. Trooper showed up about 1:50 with all sorts of hats, t shirts and such - think I saw underwear (?). Then they started calling down what must have been an OLD list. Finally filled 2 new tables and I went to the old game about 2:30. Seemed like most of the players in the Trooper game were foreign so I wonder how that will go after the series is over.

So total of rooms played in is now 562. Thinking about a trip to New Hampshire, Bangor and Rhode Island but will probably wait until the new casinos open in Mass. Otherwise looks like it will have to be one or two at a time.

I, too, have a small collection of chips. I knew I wasn’t unique in this, but I didn’t realize so many people did it too.
