Poker "rooms" ... I guess you mean, like where they took a rake?

Silly question. what am I supposed to list a bunch of casinos and that makes me cool?

Ok, Taj, AC, Rio, Vegas, Belagio, Vegas, Snoqualmiie, WA outisde Seattle, Talking Stick Resort in Phoenix, will be there this weekend signing autographs ...god I dunno, ve Qeuva ". Mighta paid a rake there once. Muckelshoot. Played there once.

Not something I ever really kept track of.

Does "The golf pro game" count? How about the Greeks uptown? way. Nice it was all the way nice. You have no idea how bad people were, 25 years ago.

If this gives you any idea, I used to have a rank of hands card in my wallet. Had to use it more than once when I was in college and someone thought a straight beat a flush.

Someone should make a fake rank of hands card ... Where you can point to it and say things like, "No, no ... My third pair beats your ace kicker. Says right here under section G ... using a third pair as a kicker."

Back in the day, ppl got away with stuff like that.

71 now I thought. I only see 70 on my list though so either I've forgotten one or the list is actually 70.

My list grows slower. I never play somewhere just to cross it off the list. If I don't really want to play poker, or the casino doesn't offer stakes that are worthwhile to me, I don't stop, even if I'm driving right by the place. There have been many casinos I've driven right past. Also, if there's somewhere that is clearly the best place in town to play, I won't bother checking out other places just to cross them off the list. The only exception to this being the Las Vegas strip. Sometimes in the past I went out of my way to play somewhere new (when somewhere better was more convenient) and I always regretted bothering, so I don't do it anymore.

Next up for me will be some of the Alberta poker rooms sometime this summer. I'm only 33 this list has a lifetime to grow.

Took a day off yesterday and hit the Sugar House Poker Room in Philly for a low quality visit to pad the list. LOL. Difficult to find it down by the river. Room was okay for a Thursday at noon. Played 1/3 for about an hour - mostly saw 92 and Q4 so stayed out of trouble.

There was some sort of private tournament going on - someone said it was all dealers from Harrahs Chester. At least 3 tables - unlimited rebuys of $40 - all in white chips. Object was to be first to get to $700. Then one winner got all the chips in play. Took about 45 minutes. Winner got 20 racks of whites - I know because I ended up 2 behind him at the window.

Did make a run thru Central and lower Florida first weekend in December. Played in 12 rooms in 3 days. Would have been 13 but when I got to the Calder Racetrack and Casino found they had closed in April. Except for Hialeah, the rooms were pretty gritty - seems like every dog track, jai alai pavilion and horse track now has a poker room. More low quality experiences I suppose.

so totals for poker rooms - inside casinos and otherwise are now -

Visited - 595
Played in - 484
Got chip - 553

While never being able to catch up to anytwo and the others, I have hit a total of 146. On this last XC trip just concluded I added Horseshoe Southern Indiana and Grand Casino (Firelake) in Shawnee OK. I also stayed at both places overnight.
Horseshoe is a nice room with lots of staff standing around doing nothing. Great layout, good games and structures. Being on a riverboat, it gets hurt by limited access and walkby, and the fact its on the bottom floor of a floating riverboat tower, completely out of the way and sight of most patrons. Thats just the way it is on a boat. I'm hard on staff standing around doing nothing when you walk up to the front desk, stand there for a while and its a big deal for the staff to finish their conversation, finally asking a brand new visitor if the can possibly help them.

Grand Casino is a beautiful property, appearing to have been recently renovated. Its a true two floor casino, and again, the poker room is stuffed in a side room, down a hallway, on the second floor, with little signage to direct you there. I had brief two hour productive session. Great hotel, nice buffet, all around quality place. I fear LT for the poker room and its business. Totally out of eyesight, not even a halfwall for walkbys, but hidden behind a huge wall. Lots of competition in the OKC area market, they'll need to do a lot more to get people in this room.

The overriding theme in a lot of posts and discussion about rooms is.....where in the casino are they located, and is the casino at all dedicated to growth of the game. As anytwo indicated in prior, Calder Racecourse closes their poker room- completely predictable given their location on the property, in the old grandstands, completely in another building from the new casino. And newer, bigger and brighter poker rooms opening nearby, like Hialeah, HR Hollywood, Gulfstream, etc. These competitors are not necessarily better, but just seem to treat the customer better by having a more welcoming sense. Pocono Downs Mohegan suffers from this as well, without the local competition, but it is another out of sight out of mind race track poker room. The Meadows changed, Mountaineer changed- and we'll see .........
Other rooms that are stuffed in broom closets, or upstairs, or just seem to be an afterthought also get customers with the same attitude. We'll play here, maybe, once in a while, but it won't be serious, it won't be for lots of money or stakes, and the staff will be .......a lot less trained and able than dealers in Vegas or the west coast.

Leaving Wednesday for the Spring Poker Trip - going back thru Oklahoma (was there 10-12 years ago) and up into Wichita to hit the new rooms and revisit some that I missed playing in last time. Hope to add 10 to 13 on to the total of 484.

There is some conflicting info on 3 of the stops - Grand Lake in Grove, 7 Clans in Red Rock and Ada Gaming Center in Ada. For 2 of them I show that they had rooms but that was 10 -12 years ago. They don't appear in poker atlas. 7 Clans is in the Atlas but no mention of a room on the casino's web site. Have run into situations where they say they have a poker room and it turns out to be some table game like Ultimate Holdem. If anyone has any info on any of these three it would be appreciated.

Only hitting 2 or 3 a day so it will be a leisurely trip.

NILLAS 10001 E Kellogg (Hwy 400) wichita
RIVER SPIRIT 1616 e 81st tulsa
OSAGE MILLION $$ 951 w 36th s n Tulsa

Also played at Winstar and Hard Rock Tulsa - but those were repeats.

Spent 3 1/2 hours at Firelake Entertainment Center on Sunday afternoon waiting for a game to start. Gave up and moved on.

This gets total number of rooms played in to 492. Am going to try and get 5 in Ohio, Ind, Ill and Mo in 2 weeks and then should get to 500 in Vegas during WSOP time. There appear to be 4 that would work - TI, Westgate, Silver Sevens and the Poker Palace. Have been to the TI and PP twice before but there were no games going.

Crossing fingers and hitting post.

Looking forward to a trip report from Poker Palace. I heard interesting things about it but never got around to it despite almost 8 months cumulative in Vegas. There's also a poker room at Club Fortune in Henderson, I never played because all they have there is 2/4 limit but I'm guessing you haven't done that one.

Actually I have been there. Wishing now that I had kept better records but I made a couple of trips to Vegas where I hit all the small rooms that I could find. Laughlin as well.

Am trying to post a picture of my Vegas chips. If this works Club Fortune is on the second row from the bottom - 3 in from the right. If not will try again later.

Checking the photo of your Vegas chips, if I am not mistaken, and I would to think that I'm not, right next to your Fortune Club chip is a chip from the Poker Palace, so it looks like you already played there ... and since the Poker Palace is a certified dump, I would doubt that you'd want to play there again if you didn't have to! (I did 3 years ago and I still haven't gotten the stink out of my clothes!)

Back to the Thread ...

Add nine more to my list ...
* The Meadows - Pittsburgh, PA
* Wheeling Island - West Virginia
* Horseshoe Cleveland
* Rivers Casino - Pittsburgh, PA
* LVH - Las Vegas
* Silver Sevens - Las Vegas
* Horseshoe Baltimore
* Horseshoe Tunica
* MGM Grand Detroit

Total now: 94 ... almost to the century mark ...

I have been to the Poker Palace twice but there were no games going. I did get a chip - as I usually do - however the PP is not counted in the 492 total. So I have been to 601 casinos/card rooms and have 559 chips. From Poker Atlas it looks like PP has small tourneys on Fri and Sat nights then a cash game or 2 afterwards. Otherwise no activity. Agree that it is a dump but somehow seems like a good choice for #500.

Here is a picture of the chips. Some in the racks are duplicates but all the ones in the case are unique.

Yeah, I understand. The first time I stopped in PP I was surprised that there were no poker games ... uh, it's called the "Poker Palace", so shouldn't there be poker games here? Turns out that they only have players on the weekends for their tournaments (which, while cheap, have some really weird re-buy / add-on rules that I never did fully understand ... if you pay an extra $5 you get 1/2 the original buy-in if you have less than half the starting stack, but if you have more 2/3 of the chip leader's great uncle's little sister's stack you only get 1/3 of the total number of players on a Australian Rules Football team, or something like that) ... anyway, took me two trips and a tourney before I could get into a cash game so I could get my chip. (I can still smell that place ... awful!)

The other place that took me a while to get into a cash game was the Joker's Wild in Henderson ... five visits that spanned two tourneys and two trips to Vegas a year apart, before I finally got into a cash game there ... very, very little action, so not surprised that they closed the poker room (great poker manager though - very nice guy.)

Well, good luck with PP ... and don't forget to wear old clothes that you wouldn't mind tossing in the dumpster on the way home!
