I don't think a mugger is going to stop to count the cash you're giving them. They just want to get out of there as fast as possible.

You don't want to give your driver's license to a criminal. If this is your strategy you gotta make sure you leave your DL in the car or roll it into the hundreds, instead of having it in your wallet as a just-in-case.

An old friend of mine who was a cop told me that, in part due to what you are pointing out about the mugger wanting to get in and out ASAP, that the safest thing to do is to just hand over your entire wallet. A lot of muggers want your credit cards too, and they're not going to negotiate with you about what you get to keep.

So in the interest of not getting shanked, my policy is I just hand over my wallet. It will be a pain in the ass to cancel all the cards, get a new DL, etc. but it's better than the alternative.

Yeah gun to my head I'm not going to try and keep my wallet. But since you are already taking your time to separate your money why not move your DL as well? Just seems like a pretty easy safety measure if we're already concerned with safety measures.

LOL. Definitely gonna need to bring some plastic baggies to the room with you.

Do you think they'll let you do this right at the cashier window? Asking for a friend...
