Id like to get 2+2 opinion on the following situation im involved in.

I have been staking a friend for live 2/5 for about 5 yrs. We've known each other since kindergarten He is like a brother to me,and we've never had an issue with money or trust.

We decided to move the staking arrangement from one casino over to the next one so i had him empty his box out completely and go over to the other casino just 15 minutes away. Well we were in the car on our way in the middle of the night and we both got held up and searched. They took everything we had, and of course the money. Neither one of us got hurt thankgod, and the case doesnt look to ever be solved.

The stake bankroll was a little over 12 thousand and he was in makeup 3500 when this happened. Im wondering what peoples opinions are on how we should consider this 12k lost? Whats fair. Please keep in mind i do NOT fault him at all for this and told him a million times during it to"do what they tell us to do and look down"

So do i just eat a 12k loss and he stays at 3500 makeup and we continue?
Does he owe 15,500 in makeup now?
Do we split the 12k loss and make his new number 9500 in the hole?

We want to remain best friends and settle this the fairest way possible

Im assuming the $12000 belongs to you so in my opinion, YOU got robbed and he just happened to be with you when it happened. You eat the loss and he stays at $3500 makeup. I have a few questions though.

1) Why does someone need to be staked for 5 years?
2) Why do you keep the entire $12000 bankroll at the casino? He should never need more than $2500 or so at any one time.

PS...It seems pretty suspicious that you got robbed exactly on this day after taking $12K out of the box. My guess is its an inside job. Someone at the casino, (or hopefully not your friend) set you up.

The casino employee would have to know exactly what was in the box, what day they were going to empty it, and what route they took (or what car they were driving). Occam's razor is pointing at the friend.

You filed a police report, correct? And how do you get held up while you're halfway between the two casinos in a car?

I'm purely speculating, but my guess is that legally your friend is liable for the whole amount if he physically had it on him when you were robbed. I'd also say that you should eat the $12k and continue with him in $3.5k makeup because--as you said--he's not at fault. But depending on how good a friend he is, I'd expect that your friend might offer to split it with you. What you do with that offer is up to you.

And I like the conspiracy theories, Spewing! If you have any thoughts about 9/11, UFOs, or similar issues, let me know and I'll look for your posts in Politics Unchained and OOT. (Seriously though, please don't post conspiracy theories to LCP.)

of the 12K, was that all yours or did he own a percentage of it? If it's all yours, then he stays in his current makeup and you lose the 12K. If he owned a part of it, you each lose your share.

Why would you even consider putting him in 15.5K makeup? How fair would that be for him? As MikeStarr pointed out above, doesn't he have his own 2/5 roll by now? So if you put him in 15.5 makeup what are the chances he says take a hike.

edit: why is the title of this thread "Horse Robbed"? As I read it, you were both robbed, and it was your money, right?

So if they are getting robbed and the friend pulls out $15.5K and before handing it over to the robber hands it to OP and says here is your $12K stake and the $3.5K makeup I owe you .... we are square now ..... does that change things?

Wasn't really posting a conspiracy theory, responding to MikeStarr about how unlikely it was a conspiracy(i.e. probably not a casino employee). And to me, it is relevant. OP is asking how who is responsible for the loss. If he has reason to suspect his friend, then he should not let his friend off the hook.

File claim with your homeowners or renters insurance

Don't bother with the homeowners claim, there is a limit on claiming cash, usually $1000

Or someone who knows you are good at PLO and thinks you have ten million dollars in the box. If two people walk into the safety deposit box area together you can make an educated guess one person is walking out of the casino with cash.

Obviously, this really did not happen, but it is an interesting hypothetical situation.
I would say you got robbed of the $12,000. Your loss. Horse stays at $3500 makeup.
You supply new bankroll.

Sounds more like a civil forfeiture when the police found money and other stuff in the car. He remains in make up.

Let's say you are in the car before the robbery. He asks how much of this money is his; what would your answer be?

My guess is that your answer is; $0, in fact you owe me money. That should be the answer. You got robbed of $12k.

If that's the case, then whose stuff got you busted? That person owes $12k.

Not sure (or don't remember) what fyp means but it looks like there was some editing there.

I do tend to think that the exact English of the post is a bit off ...

"We both got held up and searched.

There's no reason to say 'both' as 'We' is just fine. 'Both' could imply that they weren't together (as in not in the same car).

Most robbers don't 'search' either, they want you to pull out your stuff yourself and maintain distance and speed up the process. GL

This "robbery" certainly does not seem totally random , unless the thieves were exceptionally lucky to choose you two guys, and your car , at night, and on the one night where you had all the money. Did you decide to move the money the same night this happened with a short interval? But if it was just a normal stick up after all , the 12K is your money lost not your partners .

I also would like details of the "robbery". Were you driving and some robbers somehow got you to stop your car so they could rob you? I don't get it.

Reading this thread, it's astonishing how quickly I went from "friend set you up" to "someone saw you leave the box room and followed you" to "police".

Can't wait to see which theory I embrace next!

as described I'm saying police>friend set up OP>>OP set up friend>>>someone saw them leave with a bunch of cash>>>>really lucky random robbery.

Want to actually do something about it?

Get a PI to investigate and follow your friend for a month.

A really good one can find out if your friend is as innocent as he claims.

I also suspect you are doubtful of your friend, judging by your wording of the post.

Why are you bringing up conspiracy theories and comparing this situation to UFOs? How many times have you been robbed? What do you think the odds are of being robbed the one day that you happen to have left the casino safety deposit box room with $12000 and this being random? Come on Man!

It was a set up. Either the friend or a casino employee set the robbery up. Dont be so gullible.
