Have our lives been better without live poker? Have our lives been better without live poker?

I don't think so. If you have poker in balance it needs no intervention. I didn't used to but do much more now. In a broader sense, the shutdown is great for considering different life paths, imo.

Yea def miss the gamble gamble. Had a 9k score at end of year and a 16k live score this year along with a 9k online. Life is boring without the gamble gamble.
I’ve been betting horses now at a much bigger clip but would much rather play live tournaments.

It’s irritating also I have vacation left for year (maybe 6-7 days) that i have no real reason to use. Have to use my rollover days by Easter next year and I doubt we will have live mtts by then potentially which sucks. I see no real reason to use vacation from work other than poker mtt stops.

Wanna put some money on it? Some property in the US will have a tourney series by the end of the year.

Nah I don’t want to put money on it. I hope a property has a tourny series by the end of the year but I doubt it. I’m rooting for tournies to come back but I just don’t see the demand for mtts really. The not casinos in my state that are open are Native American land casinos. I just don’t see the #s being good enough along with social distancing which really can’t be had if live tournies go (most live tournies are 9-10 handed and for a reason- casinos are trying to make money).

I’m rooting for tournies to come back but I feel a pessimistic view is better to have.

I really miss poker. Its been a couple years for me, moved away from a great game, haven't found anything good in my new locatiotn... so totally unrelated to covid19, but yeah, I really miss poker.

Have not stopped playing:
live games, trips to Florida, Vegas , S Dakota. All live games are so much better than before Covid. Most players are true gamblers no - less grinders, nits.

I won my first WSOP circuit ring in March (not a brag- it was a small $400). Not going to lie, I'm dieing to get back on the live tourny grind and feel like I was just getting into a solid groove playing live. Played probably 60-70 live mtts in 2019 so felt I finally have gotten into a solid swing where I can play as many live mtts as I want (in my bi range which is low but still probably crazy to the non gambler). ex; when I was in college, playing a $200-400 mtt was a lot of money and now its like if i lose $400-600...... I really could care less bc i'm set in my career/life.

I'm dieing for live tournaments to come back right now. I don't expect live poker to be back soon (maybe it will be around in 2021 but idk). At the moment, I would play live tournaments and could care less about covid worries honestly (I already had it in May). I do think games would be bad now though bc i feel most of the fun players probably won't be playing and a higher % of serious grinders will be playing.

I have saved a lot of money though. Have maxed my 401k so far this year and have put a ton of money in the stock market. This break from poker might actually be good for me bc I have put a ton of money away for a house which I should probably get soon (i'm in my early 30s).

Also I could care less if cash games come back. I see maryland live is running cash games. I would much rather play a tournament vs a cash game. I feel cash games wouldn't even be juicy now and they just don't excite me.

Thanks for sharing this but no way I’m going to Iowa to play a $1100 lol. I’m surprised how many casinos actually have games going (Florida/NY Native American casinos, Maryland, Vegas etc). I live in ny and find it comical that Indian casinos can have games but the others (Del lago, rivers schenectady) can’t open which is probably killing their long term prospects of staying in business potentially.

Not having live poker has taken something away that was enjoyable, really unique and different to any other leisure activity, and a form of escapism into a kind of parallel world, one which you can literally step into and out of at will.

However, not having live poker I think for many of us has opened our eyes to the fact that maybe we were playing too much of it and it may have become less of a parallel world that you can step into and out of at will, and more of an equal world that feels as important as the real one. It being an equal world to the real one surely is an unhealthy situation to be in.

u got to be out of your mind. games everywhere particularly Houston, Louisiana, etc have gotten far harder to beat than before the virus.

Games in Minnesota are much, much tougher than pre C-19.

I think TBC needs to make alil adjustment.

For one, the games are mostly shoter handed than what you might be used to, and two, the pros are all congregating into the limited available games, so it's not uncommon to sometimes find yourself in a game with mostly all other pros.

If you find yourself in a bad game, it's fine to end your session and just come back tomorrow. It doesn't mean you're surrendering to "better" players - you're just leaving a higher variance game.

How does that invalidate his statement? You're essentially agreeing games are significantly tougher. Many low stakes NL games are 5 or 6 handed with a $7 max rake. I'd wager less than 5% of the player pool is profitable in those games.

It really depends on your skill level. What may be a tough game to you might only be a higher variance game to others and I don't agree that games are tougher today than they were before. For me I don't find a difference (they're actually much "easier" than where I've been playing before). Once you get to a certain skill level, there's no such thing as a tough game, only higher variance games (when a bunch of pros decide to have dick measuring contests). So just like the above poster, if you find yourself in a game that you feel intimidated by the other players, just find another game.

Higher rake per hour, reg invested games. Yea, definitely not more difficult to earn money.

It's going to be tougher on the limit players just due to the demographics of the fish.
