perhaps ask the cage to cash out via cashier's check each evening, then just cash it the following day

Small RV? You must be new to the lifestyle. Welome. You will absolutely meet the nicest people.

What you're talking about is called "boondocking" and it's a frequent topic of discussion on RV related websites. Casinos and Walmart are the cornerstones of boondocking. Which, I guess, just goes to show how far out in the "boondocks" RVers generally go.

Boondocking etiquette requires:
1. Don't overstay your welcome
2. Don't put the "feet" down
3. Don't put your slides out. It should look like you're parking there.
4. Patronize the business. Pick up some supplies or play some games.
5. When in doubt, ask permission (they will usually grant permission, unless there's some ordinance against it)

Overnighting at rural casinos approaches 100% but check the internet. For example, the parking lot at Inn of the Mountain Gods is a cruel joke; you can get in but you can't get out. Your wife will never, ever let you forget that one.

Here's how to plan the ideal RV trip. Wake up in the morning. Step outside. Throw a pencil on the ground. Whichever way the pencil is pointing, go that way. You live in a vast country, full of people who are quietly going about the business of making America what it is; there are surprises and secrets and heartbreaking beauty around every bend. And casinos too. Now get out there.

I haven't decided for sure yet, but it will probably be a smaller RV without a tow vehicle. Something similar in size to the Chinook Concourse, although I may end up opting for something a little bigger.

Thank you everyone for all the replies so far! Definitely some good tips.

Thanks for the reply. Just making some plans for the fairly near future and gathering info on what's OK and what's not.

I just did this, its safe just make sure to lock up all the doors. before going in and out. Most casinos have a specific parking lot for RVS Just drive around the parking lots its easy to find. Also Casino parking lots have security cameras in them so do their rv lots. so for extra security park right next to the camera in view of it. Other than that just stay away from dark alleys etc and you well be fine. If you are really worried get a travel buddy so one in the rv and one out. Peace gl

To this no they will not ask you to leave, its find for you to stay there for a while i was at the same spot for a week. Its not a problem just make sure you have enough water in the tanks and gray water space .

I don't think there's a single casino in Vegas that will let you boondock.

There are a few with attached RV parks.

Rumor has it Ballys will let you. Might be worth asking at rio. Circus circus has a surprisingly nice koa, although its expensive. I've stayed at flamingo for less.

I don't know of any uncovered parking at Bally's. To my recollection they have a multi-story garage that they share with Paris. I'd try my luck at Rio, Circus Circus, or The Orleans.

This is patently FALSE at pretty much EVERY casino on the Strip in Las Vegas and probably most if not all of them off the Strip. Las Vegas is very unfriendly to anyone who isn't spending money on a room. I have a van that I have been traveling cross country in and sleeping in (I cover the windows along with the windshield so it's fairly obvious I'm in sleeping in there) and have been rousted by EVERY single casino lot that I've stayed in even after playing poker much of the night. Sometimes I am able to stay a week or two on and off other times the first night. This list includes Tropicana (in their huge mostly empty lot next to Hooters), Riviera in their mostly empty lot in the fenced in area out back), Imperial Palace in their mostly empty 3rd floor of their parking garage, Hooters parking lot, Motel 6 lot next to Hooters, Suncoast (way off the Strip) plus a couple regular hotels off the strip.

Any place with even a single security guard will give you the boot almost instantly if they suspect you are sleeping in your vehicle and give you the old "insurance issues" excuse or not even that, or they will just slap something on your vehicle saying they will tow you the following night if you are still there (this is if you ignore their poundings on your door like I sometimes do).

Other casinos around the country have RV areas that they charge you for. If they have one of those, more than likely they will hassle you if you try to park overnight and sleep in their regular lot for free. There are exceptions to the rule here and there. Walmarts are a good place to park....except for Vegas I'm told.

Also, you will need a place to shower. Ho baths don't cut it after a while. Health clubs are good. Try to convince them you are interested in joining and they will often times give you a free workout (after a 20 minute tour and hard sell). This often won't work if you are from out of state though.

As for the money, be low key and have a good hiding place in your RV. Keep the bare minimum and open an account at Bank of America or Chase or another National bank and make deposits (if you are running good).

Good luck with it but it's not as easy as you make it out to be.....especially in Vegas.

This is a good tip if you are living out of a van or something, but pretty much all RVs that people are willing to travel in have showers in them, as well as kitchens, etc... pretty much anything you would need to live a normal life, although, you do need to go back to town to dump your dirty water and start fresh from time to time.

My hub and I have a small Class C and we didn't like having to park in the RV area of casinos that we've traveled to. The areas for the RVs are on the outskirts of their parking lots.

We bought a Class B, which looks like an oversized Conversion Van and now park in the regular parking areas. It can even fit on the first floor of some parking garages. It has all that our Class C has, except an oven, but on a smaller scale. And the gas mileage is much better.

We haven't had any safety issues, but we try to be cautious and aware of our surroundings.

We have not used it at Vegas casinos.

Otoh I would never hesitate to spend the night at any Native American owned casino in New Mexico. It's not that crime is unknown in the ancestral home lands -- Substance issues and gang activity cause a lot of heartache. It's that the people I think feel both a financial and a moral duty to keep their guests safe.
FYP. Indian casinos are part of a Sovereign Indian Nation and have no legal duty to, or ability to be sued by, anyone, no matter what.

Also my understanding is it's against a Las Vegas/Clark County ordinance to sleep in vehicles except in an "official" RV park.

Im from the UK, but wanting to take a year out to do the RV thing around the States. Im sure playing poker along the way will be part of the adventure, but really would like a link to any site that gives advice on RV'ing in the USA, including what/how to buy/sell a RV and places to go and stay at.

Cheers in advance

Rio definitely not (they are violation their own rules by allowing big shot poker players to park RVs there for the WSOP).

Friend of mine sleeping in his van was kicked out of the parking lot in the morning when he had a reservation for a room that night. He had just driven up earlier than he thought he would and was waiting to check in, and they wouldn't allow it.

Even if the big shots are not sleeping in the RV?

I understand this is an old thread we're replying to, but:

It's one thing to get an escort to your vehicle. It's another to be sleeping in there after your escort leaves. If anyone saw you being escorted, they'll assume you're sleeping in there with wads of cash.

I'm glad I get to reply to this old thread. My husband and I take our RV to Horseshoe Southern Indiana. They have parking meant for RVs, trucks, etc. (no hookups, though). I feel perfectly safe, even when my husband is still in playing. We've taken it to Cincinnati, too, although my husband didn't feel quite as good about it -- the parking is across the street from the casino. I was fine with it, though. RVs do lock, and you can set up cameras and have alarms.

Our retirement plan is to buy a travel trailer and roam the country playing poker, snowboarding, hitting the beaches, hiking, etc.

That might be a workable scam in any town other than Vegas. You make a free 6PM reservation and sleep in the hotel lot all day, anybody bothers you, you have a reservation for tonight. Then just wake up, cancel the res before 6, and amscray.

Plenty of RVs traveling around the 'vacation' states. One might not expect them to be 'high rollers' but you never know. The newest casino in our area had a lady and her mother staying in the lot from Sept to Nov last year.

I think it would be pretty brash to 'attack' and RV (assuming a locked door) in a parking lot with live security patrolling and presumably cameras rolling.

As far as sleeping in your car ... Lots of hotels have a policy against it. It's just a matter of being spotted. I see plenty of folks catching a nap while someone else in their party is still inside. GL
