Going Casino to Casino in an RV.... safe? Going Casino to Casino in an RV.... safe?

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything...

Does anyone know if sleeping in an RV overnight in a casino's parking lot is safe? I'm thinking of getting an RV and traveling the country. I would be spending some nights in remote wilderness and some nights in casino parking lots.

My main concern, is would I need to worry about my RV getting broken into in a casino parking lot? Also, would I need to worry about getting robbed in my RV if I won a good amount then went to sleep in my RV which is in the parking lot?

Ideally, I'd like to be able to park my RV in casino parking lots, gamble all day, then crash in my RV at night without having to worry about paying for hotel rooms, etc.... Especially since I play so late even when I do reserve a room I normally need to check out with barely any sleep.

I know this won't work at every casino but I would only be staying at ones that have ample parking.

There are a lot of ppl who do it. I've read somewhere that you should call ahead to security and find out what part of the lot you can park your RV. All of the places that I've seen have very well lit parking lots and lots of security cameras. Worry about money is legit. Try to get a box maybe and be aware of your surroundings.

A couple of things that I do: Last time I cashed out biggish I asked the cashier if there was anybody standing back and watching me. I'll also do things like go down an escalator and then right back up and see if anybody follows. Last tip: Walk out the front door, turn around and see who comes out, go back inside, turn around and see if you recognize anybody. Yes, I've read the James Bond books.

Thanks, and I agree with a lot your advice! I had never thought to asking the cashier, or going out the door and back in, but I do often walk around the casino in circles before leaving, looking for any eyes that might be on me. At my regular casinos that have multiple entrances, I alternate where I park as well so that I don't always go out the same exit.

Also, on my drive home, I am watching for people following me (unfortunately this does not apply if I will be sleeping in the parking lot) and will take an exit and get right back on or do numerous u-turns if needed, I have had people try to follow me before but have fortunately never been robbed, hence the concern.

Do all casino's have lock boxes or just the major ones?

Many casinos here in Vegas have an oversized parking lot where people park their RV's. They are usually near employee parking lots, away from the general public.

Are they safe to walk to late at night?

For the most part, yes. It's usually just employees walking around in those areas. Also, they typically have security cameras in those lots.

IDK and if they do they might not have any available. Call ahead to security or the cage and find out. If I were in your spot and 'desperate' I'd ask the concierge if I could recieve mail as a guest in their parking lot. If yes buy those mailing envelopes that have the bubble wrap in them, publicly stuff your money into it, and drop it into the casino's mailbox. Yes, I have read the Jason Bourne books.

During the wsop, a few known pros have rv's in the parking lot.

Also, a lot of old people do this, the casino will welcome your service.

If you're talking big chunks of money I'd think most places would give a security escort to your vehicle if you ask.

You should be able to put the money on deposit at the main cage and retrieve it later. More useful if youre going to be playing at the same place for a few days.

Alternately you can likely leave money in the hotel safe overnight.

A "security by smith & Wesson" sign on the RV couldn't hurt either.

Sounds like a fun trip.

When I was in college I slept in my car at casinos a number of times. I don't really know if it was safe, but I didn't ge robbed.

It seems like if you have enough money on you to worry about being targeted to be robbed, you can afford a hotel room. And if you don't then you are probably fine. I think its unlikely to give you problems on a random basis, only if you are flashing money or something.

it depends where you are talking about OP. In tunica, it's safe... perhaps in other areas it is not.

I would think for the most part it is safe if you are in areas where there are multiple RV'ers

It doesn't matter whether you're heading back to your hotel room, your home, or your RV after a session. Be aware of your surroundings. Stop and look around when you walk out the front door. Bad guys don't want to be seen. Some basic counter-surveillance techniques like making abrupt u-turns are effective against 99% of thieves.

Also having a safe installed in the RV is a good idea.

Use a major bank that has locations throughout the nation. Deposit frequently so you don't have wads of money in your RV.

A really good idea. I think banks have correspondent banks where you can make transactions when on the road. Ask your local branch.

It depends, I guess. That parking lot behind Ballys, I dunno. Anywhere aroung Greektown? I dont think so.

Otoh I would never hesitate to spend the night at any Native American owned casino in New Mexico. It's not that crime is unknown in the ancestral home lands -- Substance issues and gang activity cause a lot of heartache. It's that the people I think feel both a financial and a moral duty to keep their guests safe. So you will find that, if you courteously ask security if it's ok to park overnight, they will keep an eye on you while you are sleeping. It's kind of a small-town-cop thing, where they they just want to be nice and helpful, and plus they know who the troublemakers are because everybody knows everybody's business.

So can you" DryPark" a small Rv in most Casino lots (NO hookup to elec or anything) and stay a few days or will they ask you to leave the lot or what is the general situation??

It will vary from casino to casino obviously, but if you are a paying customer there is no good reason to chase you off. If you're in their poker room everyday I would expect to be able to dry camp as long as I wanted.

A few points that may be of use to you:

1. As someone said, find locations that have your bank/banks nearby. Why would you want to travel around with a big wad of cash?
a. Why would this wad of cash ever be in your RV anyway? Your first stop at a casino (assuming part 1 is not an option or it's late at night) should be straight to the cage to rent a box. Or plan out boxes in advance.
b. This would lessen the need for the James Bond stuff, which probably isn't going to help you out that much anyway. Then again, considering you may have been followed before, I'm certainly not saying never to bother, just to put due diligence in other measures.

2. I would have a gun if I was doing this but remember a. get a permit! b. know how to handle the thing/place it properly. Doesn't do you much good if an attacker scopes your rv out beforehand, or if you need it but have a lock on it/it's hidden far too well.

3. Be vigilant and plan out your trips well. Stay away from seedy areas, obviously. But overall, don't worry too much. This isn't the Wild West you're traversing. Enjoy yourself!

Just an idea.....what about getting a safe and securing it inside the RV in a cabinet or something like that? You know make sure it is hidden from view and bolted to the floor and/or in many differnt ways...so if someone broke in and saw it, they couldn't just pick it up and leave...it would take them some time to remove it.....

Otherwise, it sounds like fun to do this.....hope you have a great time!

Also I was really disappointed. I thought this thread was going to be about a casino operating out of an RV. Had epic potential.
