Re: General poker-related coronavirus discussion, argument, and jibber jabber

The NYT article I have referenced before, is behind a paywall, and in case anyone didn't dive into the tweets from the reputable sources I posted above, here is a free article that gives in depth and other study info as to why the current covid testing is a joke, and the CDC needs to publicly come out and instruct all labs to change their cycle threshold.

https://rationalground.com/why-mass-...er-productive/

If TLDR for you , here is key takeaway imo

[I][In a review of data from three labs, the New York Times found that “up to 90 percent of people testing positive carried barely any virus,” meaning that only about 10% of people who test positive may actually need to isolate and submit to contact tracing. The recommended solution was to reduce the threshold to 33 cycles, based on CDC calculations.

A literature review of studies on infectiousness based on PCR testing found two studies showing that the odds of live virus culture reduced by 33% for every one unit increase in cycle threshold and that thresholds over 30 cycles were associated with non-infectious samples.

The FDA’s Instructions for Use for the CDC 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel currently recommends a threshold of 40 cycles for a specimen to be considered positive, well above the recommendations of the studies cited above.

The bottom line is that 70%-90% of positive results from COVID-19 PCR tests are currently inaccurate because they detect virus at levels that are either too small to transmit to others or simply a remnant of recent exposure/I]

Grunch.

With poker rooms supposedly planning their comeback in the following months/next year, how many do you think will change to e-tables? It would suck for dealers but in terms of lessening "contamination" chances, makes better sense, no touching communal cards, chips and you use a pen with the touchscreen, faster games also. The only drawback is the ppl fearing "poker is rigged" due to higher occurrence of badbeats.

Maybe some will try, but I think the majority of casinos might feel like no poker room is better than an e-table poker room. If it really comes to that.

For things like poker, the relevant question isn’t if people are save but if they feel save. That doesn’t necessarily go hand in hand.

Interesting point. Can they really do that, as I thought some casinos have a rule that they have to have some poker tables…not sure where I read about this vague thing though. Also, even though poker is not as profitable as putting slots in the same space, I'd imagine it's used as a loss leader?

This probably falls in line with other recent developments regarding nasal spraye in the last number of weeks... Pittsburgh scientist s have discovered molecule that treats and could prevent. Doesn't cause any bad side effects as doesnt bind to the human . Has been tested in hamsters etc and have created a drug already

Watched the first 15 mins of the live presser. They don't expect human trials to commence until early 2021. Regeneron is far ahead of them

Sept 28 reopening. Guests must book their time in advance. No food service. No table games. Limited compacity (I think it is more than 50 no but am not sure, that's what it was limited to when it first had opportunity to open).

They've only contacted about 30 unionized employees so far to come for re-training with the new protocols. Out of a few thousand employees. Looks like non-union will have to do some work. It's going to get messy.

Had a routine physical and asked the physician to opine on playing poker 6 handed with masks. He said that I was gambling twice. I don’t believe that he was a poker player.

My sister-in-law is my family doctor, and she said ok if....those partitions are used, and I wear a mask and a face shield. I haven't tried to wear even a face mask for more than about an hour so far, so not sure I'm going to enjoy playing with all that over my face...but not playing without them.

Re: General poker-related coronavirus discussion, argument, and jibber jabber

We are requiring people to book an (up to) 2 hour slot and decide which part of the casino they want to use. Food service is cancelled. Table games are cancelled. Slot machines are separated according to local health department recommendations. I don't know the limit on patrons but have a feeling it is still 50. I seriously doubt 50 can keep the lights on. But we're publicly traded and our majority stakeholders are cleaning up, so I think they'll keep trying to bring back more staff and patrons, even though we're unionized (yay jobs. Boo deaths). We're lucky because they've kept our benefits even though th ey've been closed since March. I suspect this will be their biggest bargaining chip next contract.
