Favorite and least favorite tv "pros".

Threads probably been done before but it looks like it's just been done again. Anyways who are the guys you tune in to see, and who do you hate seeing?

Right now for me.

Antonious-No explenation needed obv.
Durrr- Quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Ivey-So sick.
Hellmuth-Don't like him, but he does make for interesting TV.
Negranue-Hand reading, funny dude etc...

Not a fan.

Humberto-Too gimicky.
The Croc-Gimmicky.
Ferguson-Nitty, deosn't talk, meh...
Tilly- I'm on the fence about this because she did provide one of the best/worst moment in TV poker, but I have no interest in watching her play poker.

I don't really like watching anyone from Pokerstars, with the exception of Daniel and Barry.

Yeah, I forgot those. Probably has to do with my hate against PS and not with the players theirself.

Re: Favorite and least favorite tv "pros".

in a cash game I love to watch daniel N. he cracks me up. I still love watching Doyle play and believe for one day, one long game, he would still be near the top if not the top of everybody. in tournys. i love watching Helmuth. I really dislike him but man is he fun to watch. way, way overboard on everything he does.

Phil Hellmuth has put me on life tilt every day of this week on PAD. If he is playing this badly and making such asinine comments on purpose to buy action, kudos. If not, I am quite certain he would be crushed in Stars 1/2.

Re: Favorite and least favorite tv "pros".

Faves:

- Kenny Tran - Cool cat, you can tell he's a grinder. One of the only dudes who knew how to handle Hevad Kahn @ 2007 ME. Plus his "sick call" with the 4-to-a-flush board facing a 3 barrel bluff is what legends are made of.

- Tom Dwan - Very impressed with this kid's abilities. His table talk could probably use a little more charisma, but he more than makes up for it with his high variance, sure-to-be-action style. Makes for good television.

- Phil Hellmuth, Jr. - Hilarious character, even if he doesn't mean to be. Couple that with 11 bracelets and a style that makes even the novice player scratch their heads, the irony in itself makes one only want to see what'll happen next with this guy.

- Philip Hilm - Aggression defined. On any filmed session of this guy, you can see him bluffing his chips on every type of board there is. This guy's willing to play hardball, and he'll take his losses like a true poker pro's supposed to... and still have the nuts to keep applying pressure on opponents.

- Allen Cunningham - Folded his Aces on the turn after Phil Ivey led out on both the Flop and Turn... somehow was able to sniff out a rat. Gotta love the way this guy plays the game... lose the minimum, gain the maximum.

- Sammy Farha - Probably the loosest player out of the group (seems like he's a real gambler), it's always entertaining to see the range of hands this guy'll play. Plays a 37os on HSP, hits two pair, and damn near felts his opponent who had an overpair. Style, charisma, and humor... the kinda poker player you want at the tables.

DBags:

- Sheikhan - Type of player who noone wants to play with. Not because of his skills, but because of his attitude. Nobody wants to play with someone who thinks he's the best thing to hit the felt since cards itself. Anger issues make for horrible television poker.

- Brenes - What the man wouldn't do to keep a pokerstars sponsorship deal. Although I don't see anything wrong with celebrating winning a pot, it's usually uncalled for if you're holding the best possible hand pre-flop. Credit for having one of the most cashes in the WSOP, but I don't care too much for his post-flop play... he seems like just a person who's found out the formula for surviving the bubble.

- Gus Hansen - I read his book, and definitely have found some good info that's helped my game a lot... just don't care all that much about his style, at least as of late. Everything to the guy is just "So sick... so sick, I admit, that was sick. That was sick. Just... sick." Blah... grab a personality dude, that's what the vets are all doing nowadays.

That's it for now. Oh, and, regardless of how she plays, I NEVER mind watching Tilly play the game. She's hot for a 70 year old.

Re: Favorite and least favorite tv "pros".

Cant stand watching Durrr or Kenny Tran on TV. Both are arrogant and annoying. Tran always claims hes the greatest blah blah.... Meanwhile, Durrr always has his gay condescending voice "Ugh like nice hand sir". Then on PAD he fishes for compliments from Hellmuth, "I play so bad Phil". Then Durrr rudely gets on his cell phone to find out about his horses in the 5k. Nobody cares about your horses and it looked like the directors told him a couple times to get off the phone and he did not oblige quickly.

Re: Favorite and least favorite tv "pros".

kenny tran is a phenominal player
phil ivey ob cos of all his sick bluffs and fast high variance style
durrr only cos i hear hes amazing, seems to play fast like ivey
allen cunningham plays nothing like the above 3 but still makes so many sick laydowns never pays off a big pot, while still cant be considered a nit because most of the time he can make correct calls as wel

Ferguson has his uses. If you have a table filled with chatty players like Hellmuth and Matusow, Ferguson is a good guy to stick in one of the chairs because he doesn't cause sensory overload and gets in an occasional humorous line or two. I like him in supporting roles. I don't like him when he is cast as the main personality. Dan Harrington is a similar guy on TV.

I may be the only person who enjoys watching Vanessa Rousso play. I think there is some amusing chemistry when she is at the same table as Clonie Gowen. It's not that I think she's a great player or that I am particularly attracted to her, but if I played at those stakes and was at the same table, I think I'd probably be encouraging her chatter and having a game-long conversation that would tilt half the people on this forum.

I like watching Sammy Farha, but only when he is losing. He annoys me so much that I want him there as a villain I can root against. I am so glad that Moneymaker beat his ass heads up in the main event way back when. The players I most want to punch in the face at live tables are Farha imitators. I do not want to chop. We are not allowed to run it twice in this casino. Your unlit cigarette does not make you look cool.

I don't get the love for Kenny Tran. He's another guy I wouldn't mind seeing get a punch in the face. My favorite Kenny Tran moment was on Cash Poker when he bet that he could name a guy's hand and failed miserably. Another guy who I can only enjoy when he's running bad.

If I wanted to have hours and hours of a player to watch to pattern myself after him, I think it would be Allen Cunningham. His style of play probably best suits my talents. I'd want to watch him play limit games, though.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Perry Friedman when he shows up on TV.

Phil Galfond bores the crap out of me. Do not want.

I would look more favorably on Tom Dwan if his eyebrows looked normal.

This hand never actually happened on High Stakes Poker.

My favorites are pretty much the same as yours though. All the classics from HSP including Dan Negreanu, Mike Matusow, Phil Hellmuth, Eli Elezra, Patrik Antonius, Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Laak.

Meh I just don't see it. He's a solid tourney player. But on PAD, High stakes cash game, HSP etc... He doesn't bring anything to the table that I find remotly interesting. Like I guess he has a cool hat, but that's about it. ABC poker from a boring dude.... whoopidy doo imo.

Poker Players on TV that I like:

1. Hellmuth Entertaining and interesting and great reads
2. Greenstein I respect his play/contributions and his book
3. Tony G Great intensity to win and defeat others

Poker players I don't like

1. Jamie Gold a world class jerk
2. Phil Laak Mr Drama and attention seeker to show us nothing interesting
3. Scott Fishman Full of himself although there isn't much to be full of

Players I will Tune In specifically to see on TV.

Sam Grizzle
Hoyt Corkins
David "Devilfish" Ulliott

Players that annoy me on TV.

Phil "TV Time" Hellmuth - I don't mind him playing, but it's all the other times when he butts into other broadcasts, and has all his "look at me" moments away from the table. My thinking is "Shut up and play".
