How beatable are games with 10% rake? How beatable are games with 10% rake?

It seems like all the casinos around me either have 10% rake, capped 2 big bets (4big blinds) each hand, or 3 big blind per 30minute session fee.

What kind of table would I need to make it beatable, and what's the better deal?

On some nights it's a fight for the blinds with the table seeing one river an hour, and on some nights it could be 4 to 6 to the flop for half of the hands (and perhaps 0 to 3 for the other half).

A friend of mine says they are unbeatable by most people on most nights. I'm not sure I agree... although I feel its not worth playing.

Thoughts?

I would not play. If this is the best around, start a home game.

It can be if the rake is capped at a reasonable amount and the game is really juicy. Is there a jackpot? That also hurts the profitibality of the game.

In sydney, star city 5/5 NLHE game is 10 time charge 10% rake up to 10% if there is no flop still take rake from the pot.

5/10 NLHE game 30 time charge. bigger game is actually cheaper I guess.
esp. in the case where both of them get short handed.

anyways, this looks pretty bad but game is quiet good often enough and there is a few guys who play there as professionally and have good base regular since only legal place to gamble including poker (cash games)

but def. dropping regulars and player

hopefully changes

This structure sounds pretty miserable, but are you sure you have all the details right? You're saying for a 30/60 game, they'll rake $120 if a pot reaches 20 BB? That doesn't seem like it could be correct.

For example, say a $10/20 limit game is running, with 9 players each buying in $500. Based on an average pot size of 3.5 big bets ($70), it'd take less than 24 hours for every dollar on the table to be raked (based on 25-30 hands per hour).
