It makes it much easier to hide any bluff tell that you have when you don't realize you're bluffing :-)

A t Borgata in one of my first live tournaments , I got the ire of several of my table mates. I was opening rooting for a couple of the players when they were all in because I had become friendly with them. The annoyed tablemates thought that was terrible ettiquette and made sure I knew it (I guess it was, I was pretty new to live at the table, thought I was being friendly.). We exchanged some words, but continued playing without much issue. Then it folded to me bvb and i shipped 95o vs a weak bb 7-8 bbs effective. He snap folded and I snap mucked.

Well, it turns out utg+1 had limped. The players that disliked me were like hahaha ship your stack gg etc. To make it worse, I could not identify the cards from the muck, pulling out J5o. After a somewhat lengthy ruling, the td ruled that I had to surrender a min raise because of intent. What the official rules are, I'm still not sure. I was just very happy at the time to not be eliminated. I didn't say a word after that, and went to mincash. Lesson(s) learned.

1/3 NL live. I'm in BB with Q9. 5 limp all around to me.

Flop: J94 I bet 12. 2 callers.
Turn: 8 Check Check Check.
River: 9 KA-CHING! I bet $28. Fold. Call.

Being called, I say trips and I turn over my Q....6.
Fortunately caller had straight and was worried about the possible boat. Friggin embarrassing as hell.

I haven't actually done this, but I'm thinking about purposely doing it.

First a little back story...

My gf's son is 22 and has been bugging me about teaching him the finer points of poker for several months. I finally break down about 2 weeks ago and grab a deck of cards and start talking to him about knowing percentages, position etc... and I notice that he looks completely dumbfounded. I ask him if I'm going too fast and he says "Well, first can we go over what beats what?"

I had assumed that he knew the basic rules and had played with friends and wanted to learn how to improve his game, but he literally knew nothing. I told him I'd get him a book explaining the rules and once he read it we could go over some things. So I go on amazon and order him "Texas Hold 'Em For Dummies". Three days later the book arrives. The following day a 2nd copy of the book arrives with the same order number and everything so I wasn't charged twice.

Now on to the dumb thing I MIGHT do...

Now that I have an extra copy of this book I'm thinking about taking it to the casino with me and sitting at the table with it and flipping through it between hands, and being sure to hold it up so that people can see what I'm reading and maybe even waiting for the right moment (i.e. I bet and get raised and it's back on me) and saying "Is it ok if I look something up really quick before I decide to what to do?" just to give the impression of having no idea of what I'm doing.

At Seminole Hard Rock playing 2-5, one of my first times playing live poker. I get Q10o in the small blind. There are 3 limps and I complete, the BB checks. Flip is 89J with two spades. I check and the UTG player bets 15 into the 25 dollar pot. It folds around and I make it 65. He thinks for a second and calls. The turn is a low card (not a spade). I bet 150. He tanks and then exposes his hand to get a read. He had AA. I didn't realize that your hand is still live if you expose it at this casino, so I'm sure I looked disappointed. He then calls.

The river is the Ace of clubs. We both have about 400 left. I think "I can't bet now, he'll know that I have him beat. But if I check, his hand is so strong that he'll have to bet it, and I can check shove." I check and much to my surprise he checks as well. I didn't realize my mistake until the session was over, even though people were making comments like "I guess the 7 seat hates money".

I must be pretty out of it right now but check/shoving there makes perfect sense to me

I've got a new #1 dumbest for me.

I had a stack of red on top of my cards protecting my hand in a nl game. Guy bets $25 on the river and I move the stack off my cards to fold. As I'm about to flick my cards into the muck I hear the dealer say, "$100!". I guess when I lifted the stack off my cards, I placed it a few millimeters in front of my cards, which constitutes a bet in this room. Everyone (including villain) knew I intended to muck, so of course he snap calls. Goodbye $100.

Playing in a live tourney. Had A-10 and thought I rivered a straight but misread so I just had A high. Final board was like K-6-9-8-J.

Opp shoved on river. I snap called and tabled my hand saying "straight". Dealer notices immediately I don't have it but opp gives me a look like I should ***** because they were on a stone bluff so my A high is good and I ship the pot.

I didn't look up at the rest of the table for a few hands after that as it was dead silence LOL.

my dads all time greatest one happened just the other day, hes had 40 years of experiance in all games, and makes this stupid fu*k up...

cash game, against a few donks, he flops the nut flush, an one guy leads into him, he calls, turn brick, guy bets, he raises, guy shoves, he calls. river pairs the board, the guy asks do you have the flush? he answers yes, and tables nut flush, guy says your good, a few seconds later, my dad asks, can i see your hand (like a tard!!! he wants to know what the guy is stacking off 200bbs with) and he tables 10,10 for a flopped set, which turns out to be a full house! which turns out to be the best hand, that hasnt been killed! WHAT A D1CK, he wont live that one down in my house!

as for me...not taking a seat because i didnt like the line up of short stacks, letting the next guy take my seat, 15mins after iv taken my new seat, and same guy is jumping in the air, BBJ just paid out! ok, he took 25% of £20,000...not life changing, but pretty gutting.

Both these happened in a home game (although different nights).

NLHE/PLO/PLO8 rotation. I get my stack all-in holding the nut low and a straight draw. Only to find out I was on the wrong Omaha orbit...we were on high-only. Oops.

Another PLO hand. Held TT98 on a 997 flop. Bet pot, got a caller. Turn 6. I bet pot again with my straight, dude calls. River 8. All I could think was "my straight got counterfeited and the hearts got there". Villain goes all-in (it wasn't much more, less than 20% of the pot), I make a crying call, already accepting defeat. He shows a 96xx for nines full. I muck without showing. Wasn't until middle of next hand when I realized I'd thrown away the higher boat. Ugh.

My infamous 7 rack spill on the way to the cage. Two tables had to get up. Seven employees helping and 25 minutes later I made it out of there. Most embarrassing thing ever. People laugh now when I always call chips and color up like 3 racks

Hilarious, but one time at a casino I got so mad at a hand I crumpled up my cards before giving them back to the dealer. They were the Copaq or whatever and didn't crumple well so I tried to play it off. The Asian dealer looked at me like "wtf?" I was so scared I was going to get banned from that casino even though I was running bad lol.

In my early days of playing live, I announced "Call" to an UTG raise, only to see that MP had shoved. Bye bye 2/3 of my stack.

Not stupid but definitely brainless. I was very tired that day having barely slept the night before and I should've stayed home.

I'm MP in a 1/2 game. I get 45 in the hole. There's a $12 pre-flop raise and we go to the flop 5-handed. Flop is 233 rainbow. SB leads out for $25. He has been pretty aggressive and buys a lot of pots. I call and another person calls. Turn is a 6. SB leads out for $65. Action comes to me and I go all in for $170.

While the next person is contemplating to call or fold, I lift my cards to show it to the player next to me.

Here's the conversation that ensued between us in a whispered tone.

Player: You are good.
Me: I hope he doesn't call. I only have 5 high.
Player: No no. You are good.
Me: f***. I think he's going to call. I have to catch up on the river.

Player eventually calls and original raiser folds. River is a 9.

Caller shows A3. I'm about to muck but he insists on seeing my hand. I embarrassingly table my bluff and see the pot getting shipped towards me. I try to correct the dealer saying he's got it but the whole table is staring at me like i'm on coke or something. And then it dawns on me that I turned a straight.

2 hands later I rack up and leave.

I just remembered another pretty tard one I did I'm Vegas.

1/2 NL at Excalibur during time when they had live dealers. Guy in the 9-seat is an old dude wearing a hat with the logo of some casino from the 70's. He has played one hand besides his blind up to that point (about an hour and a half) and his whole persona screams super rocky rock.

I get JJ in MP and raise to $12. Folds to old guy in SB who RRs to $40. I call.

Board comes 10 high with no real draws. Guy bets $60 and has about $150 left after. I have him covered by about $180.

Every bone in my body screams I'm crushed but I have an overpair! So I shove. He snap calls and tables Kings and I pay him off after turn and river brick. As he is stacking I say out loud why the eff did I do that? There were like zero hands in his range I'm beating.

Sigh.

That sucks, I've been in that situation but on the other end. This was a few years ago but I remember I made my hand and threw out a river bet. My opponent, in a disgusted fit, angrily makes a motion with his hand. In doing so he knocked a nice stack of chips into play, technically making a raise. I saw that he didn't intend to actually put chips in the pot so I let him take his "bet" back and muck his hand. he was thankful and I just couldn't do it to him.

I do this a lot in a 4/8 choice game. 9/10 players choose H/L of whatever we are playing, but when that one 'High only' guy has the button I space. I've gotten to showdown before realizing it numerous times.

What the dumbest thing you've done playing live?

I raised AK to iso a fish. He calls. Flop is J42 he bets into me I call. Turn is a K he bets again I call. River is a 5 he bets again I call. He flips over A4. Somehow I think it's 44. Not a vision issue he's on my direct right. I muck my AK and realize my mistake after it's too late. RIP $500. Put me on super tilt right away so I racked up and left. Didn't even wait for my BB.

I flopped a straight and folded to a small flop bet. Long time ago so I don't remember the details but I think it was something trash like J7o in the BB, flop 89T and I check fold thinking I missed entirely. Results oriented win though - someone eventually made a flush.

Dumbest thing I did recently - 1/3 game about a $12 pot I turn aces with a crap kicker, everyone is checking down on the river I toss in two chips and dealer looks at me and says "Uh you have to bet $3". What I thought were 2 red in my hand were 2 whites. Results oriented win - everyone folded to the $3 bet anyway.

Got my first card, put my hand over it and looked at the corner at an A of clubs.
The dealer throws the second card and it slides perfectly under my hand and lines up perfectly with the first card. I lift the corner to look at the bottom one and it's an A of clubs.

Like a dumb ass I immediately shout out WTF I've got 2 A of clubs. Must have said it seriously enough for everyone to take notice and dealer stop what he's doing to look. I re-check the top card and it's just trash. He'd managed to slip the card under my hand but on top of the first card so I checked the bottom one twice. Instead of checking both cards first I just opened my big mouth and made a right tit of myself.

Slammed my cards down in frustration when shoving all in short stacked on final table of a tournament w 33 after seeing opponent turn over 99. Had just lost big post all in w A9 v A5 . Cards bounced and one flew off the table - I was very fortunate they didn't kill my hand but still lost.
