Worrying about pros at 1/2 is like worrying about being hustled at mini-golf. If that’s how they make a living, good luck and Godspeed to them.

1/2 is like a training table, with stacks so shallow I don't think it's an easy game to sustain a profit you can live off of.

Why would you avoid them? You can flop a set against them and clean them out

I dont announce it but I will tell the truth "I used to play for a living" if asked. There is really no point pretending you're not a pro. At any decent stake, people know.

And if you go out of your way to deny it, people get pissed off and table gets worse. So dont lie and just play and keep things as friendly as possible.

People dont mind playing with and losing to pros. People just hate playing with miserable pricks that make the game unfun. Sadly that describes a lot of pros, especially in small and mid stakes.

At higher stakes where only one table runs, you can't hide that you're there for 30-50 hours a week. If you don't want to say you're a pro, act the way people act when they're unemployed - talk about what you did or what you're going to do.

"What do you do?"
"I'm applying to grad school for computer science."

"What do you do?"
"I owned an adult bookstore."

At the higher stakes games when you play with the same people every day they will pretty much know you're a "professional player" or what ever you wanna label yourself as.

I have no idea why this pro was sitting at 1/2. He was with a friend so maybe he was just tagging along.

some "pros" go bust/ or nearly bust and have to move down in stakes to recover if they can't find somebody to stake them. It doesn't really mean they are not good players. Just temporary at lower levels for them sometimes till the cards and circumstances inprove.

Couldn't agree with this comment more, if anything it shows they are a better player by moving down the stakes and showing good bankroll management. Another common thing I see is when pro's are down on there luck and need a confidence booth, they'll move to a game below there ability/bankroll, when your down it's always nice to play a game you know you have a huge edge in rather than a slight edge. The last thing I will note though is if you hear about a "pro" player who is in a outback casino with one one-two hold-em table open, you should know how to pick up a bluff as a poker player.

if they were good at bankroll management they wouldn't have been playing over their head to start with

Well, no, not necessarily--as your bankroll shrinks, you have to play lower stakes. All the bankroll management in the world doesn't help if you're losing money.

They could have been taking a shot at 2/5 and moved down after a downswing. This would be an example of good bankroll management....

Don’t tell people your primary source of income is poker. If they ask just lie. Tell them you are a travel agent, a dildo manufacturer, or whatever. Telling them you are a pro will intimidate them and they will avoid playing against you, costing you money. Just keep quiet (or be friendly - whatever your personality may be), play your game, be respectful, and never tap the tank.

I have played online low limits vs. two players who were playing loose and I accidentally put my whole roll on the table. The result, they started to play tighter and more carefully. I didn't mind about that too much, though, as they became less dangerous and more readable, but not my general recommendations and I wouldn't do it on purpose.
