It is incredible that alldealers think they do a goid job and want tips but:

1. Many do not ask players for their card when they sit down.

2. Most do not see a regular player is not swiped in and ask "Do you want to use a card today?"

- some even say they are told not to ask because the players should have been asked when they sat down and they do not want to bother players who do not want to use a card by asking.

Not asking a new player is doing a bad job.

Regularly not seeing or seeing and not mentioning that a regular player who uses a card is not logged in and deffending this is crazy stupid.

This is how you judge dealers?

Well if you can't win at poker you have to win at comps right?

Seems to me the answer is up there with the ever popular "protect your hand". Give the dealer your card when you sit down. Protect your comps!

Quite often I forget to give the dealer my card when I sit down and I want someone to blame besides myself.
FYP.

The dealer should ask, but...

JHC Just hand or slide your casino card to the dealer when you sit down. JHC is this a real complaint??

I was at a steakhouse the other night, the waiter did not offer to grind pepper onto my steak. Can you believe it? The nerve! And they consider themselves a fancy restaurant!

One time I changed seats, and the dealer either didn’t notice or didn’t care that she had logged me out instead of moving me in the system. A later dealer mentioned that I wasn’t logged in. I appreciated it.

The dealer is probably too busy reminding other players who have no sense of personal responsibility to do things like post their blinds, to act (for the third time because the player chooses to render themselves operationally deaf with head/earphones), to sit down (no sir, you can't be dealt in while you are standing up and hovering over the other players), and to square up the table for the eighth time to remind you to do something that benefits only you.

of course it is also possible sir, that I asked 5 times for your card and you ignored me, so the reason you weren't swiped in wasn't because I didn't ask .... but for the same reason you didn't know when the action was on you, or that there had been a raise, or that the player who had been in seat 3 left 20 minutes ago .... because you weren't paying attention.

why don't you take some personal responsibility and look at the bravo yourself/remember to swipe in????

When your post to new thread ratio is below 10:1, chances are not all threads you start are gonna be winners.

As others have said, just give the dealer your card at the end of the hand that's playing out when you sit down.

Basically this.

If all dealers had to do was pitch and ask players for their member cards, they'd probably get the member cards thing done 100% of the time. Unfortunately they have to spend a good portion of time working as adult daycare.

Really, this is so far down on the list of things to criticize dealers for, I would never make it that far.

Although about 99% of new players are asked for their card, the final responsibility is on the player, if he wants to receive comp-back and so they know who you are if and when you get picked up.

just try to remember next time. It's not the end of the world I can assure you.

Dealer here, I'll always ask players when they first sit down if they have a card unless it's a reg who I know doesn't use a card, which sometimes I'll joke with them something like "still no card, huh?" Sometimes I'll look down at Bravo and see a reg in as a guest and I'll let them know and ask them for their card and call over a floor/chiprunner to get them backed up on their time, but that depends on how much I like that reg. And sometimes if there's a player who always stiffs me and is winning multiple hands that down and not tipping at all, I'll log them out of Bravo and sign them in as a guest. Woops

Holy cow, his ratio is lower than chainsaw's. I didn't think that was possible for anyone with >500 posts.

FWIW, I recently played in a room for the first time and didn't care about getting a card. I think every single dealer asked me if I had a card at one point during their down.

OP clearly has no idea how many plates a dealer is currently juggling in his head, because dealers make it look rather effortless. Counting the pot alone is more than many poker players can keep up with--but for the One Man Band, it's only the bass line.

Add the post ratio cited above, and he's clearly all about him.

The OP's posting style has room for improvement but as a dealer I think it's good that we get reminded of this from time to time. We often head toward the path of least resistance and if a player simply won't acknowledge us when we try to get their attention we're only going to slow down the game so much to try to get it. We need to get you checked into that seat so another player doesn't get sent to take it, so we need to put a guest in there if you won't give up the card. Maybe we don't try very hard to get it fixed when you're finally done with your conversation at the other table or texting or whatever it is you do on those phones. It should be part of our process to make sure everyone who wants to be checked in is checked in.

As a player, the best thing is to just put it out in front of your seat within reach of the dealer when you sit down. Don't wait until the hand is over. If I can put you in during a lull in the action I will, otherwise it will go in after the hand. Don't throw it at us and don't tuck it under the rail. I love it when a player comes to the table, tucks their card under the rail in the 3 seat where I have zero chance of reaching it and walks away to get their chips. When they get back and I ask them to give the card to me they're always shocked that they aren't already logged in.

Sometimes I will sit at a table, and the dealer doesn't say 'Welcome to the game'. What's up with that?

Not going out of your way to get a reg logged in if they're signed in as a guest because they don't ever tip? meh, I can see it.

Actually logging them out? That's just a bad employee. Please don't brag about this stuff. You're making the rest of us look like self entitled pricks.
