Complicated buying the button situation Complicated buying the button situation

I'm a new dealer and want to know what the universal rule is here despite each casino having their own rules.

So seat 6 is the sb and seat 9 is the bb. Seat 7 and 8 are empty seats. The hand is completed and a new player sits down in seat 7 and wants to buy the button. Just before he puts out his sb and bb a new player sits down in seat 8 and wants to play immediately as well. Despite half the table saying that she has to the post, the floorman told me to deal her in for free.
So what happens the very next hand? Does the button pass seat 8 and go to seat 9 who then becomes the sb otb? thanks for the help.

Not universal but I would have 7 buy button and deal in 8. Then next hand, 7 is button and 8 buys it for the next hand. Third hand 8 is button, and 9 now post SB.

Ok..so you agree with my floorman to deal her in for free the first hand and then have her buy the button..tks (my floorman didn't explain the second part to me at all

That's a reasonable solution as long as it's clear to seat 8 that the choices are waiting 2 hands or playing one free then buying the button the next hand. If you get to the next hand and they say they didn't know they'd have to buy it then you have a mess to clean up.

I would tell seat 8 to wait one hand and then buy the button. Makes things easier the whole way around. If you let him post, then the button and blinds get all messed up on the subsequent hands.

But it is room dependent. If you have an issue with what your floor told you, ask the room manager to explain it better. It's possible someone is passing around incorrect information.

Usually seat 8 will be told he needs to wait a hand. It's pretty much standard where I play. I like this better then giving him a free hand and asking him to buy the button on the next hand. What if he says "nah, I'll wait" you can't really force him to buy it at that point, right?

Normally you would make seat 8 wait a hand and then buy the button.

But if these are actually new players, not walkers, it's pretty silly for them to be buying the button anyway. A better solution is to let them both post inbetween if that is allowed in your room. Then they could both play right away, in a hand with one SB and three BBs, but neither would get to be the button next hand, it would pass to seat 9.

Not an issue. If he was told then decides no. You just give him a missed blind button. Then he will post when he comes in behind the button

Usually seat is told to wait. My preference would be for seat I to buy the button and seat 7 wait or post between but this not generally done.

I this option because it allows more players to play and while seat 7 doesn't get a button he saves a small blind and comes in on the cut off.

Chillrobs solution let's them both play but seat 7 misses both his button and the cutoff.

You either give him a free hand and force him to buy the button the next hand or make him wait.

While not every room allows buying the button, in my experience there are far fewer room which allow posting between the blinds and the button. Plus since neither will get to be the button, if the room doesn't require new players to post, I expect both would then sit out one hand and come in behind the button for free.

Even better switch to a moving button, require posting and then just post away before, behind, between, on the button, wherever.

This is correct. With the added explanation to seat 8.

I will always explain to seat 8 that they will have to buy the BTN next hand or they can wait 2 hands. If they decide they don't want to buy it the next hand, they will get a missed blind button.

... As long as they've taken the first hand, yes?

If they take that first 'free' hand then they are obligated to post either the next hand or whenever they decide to get back into the game. GL

I like (and once wrote this as a rule) that seat 8 has the option to buy the button if he wishes and seat 7 may post between. This comes down to "who can buy the button?" is it the player in the seat after the button or is it the player in the seat before the next small blind?

People love buy the button so we aren't going back, but maybe posting between is a better rule than buy the button for this situation (they both post between and we go on with life).

Seat 8 has to wait a hand, or straddle and then buy the button next hand.

I've always told seat 8 they have to wait in this instance.

Since you can come in for free behind the button in my joint it's never been questioned.
