Serous question though, why are the gambling laws so antiquated in Texas?
Actually there is
one Indian casino that the state of Texas hasn't been able to close yet. It has a decent poker room for a podunk little place. It's in Eagle Pass, Texas, which is on the Mexican border.

Several organizations are aligned with each other to stop poker/casinos in Texas.
Horse Racing (totally dying in Texas).
Baptists ("Charitable" Bingo).
The State of Texas (lottery).
They feel that any dime that goes to poker/casinos is a dime that doesn't go into their pockets.
