I chose the name "Almost" because I was at the Harrah's 2-4 Limit Jackpot table (# 418) from Noon until midnight yesterday (Wednesday). The Jackpot was hit this morning (Thursday) at 6 AM, six hours after I had left that same table.
Of course, had I stayed at that particular table until 6 AM, the Jackpot would not have been hit in the same exact manner, if at all, due to the ripple effect of "every action having an effect on every other action". You could even make a case that had I left that table one hand sooner or later, the Jackpot would not have been hit, but I digress.
Here are the other Jackpot details I've heard.
Four 10's beat four 6's. The player who lost with the four 6's was a young college-age kid who was with two (or more) friends who were all at the winning table. That group had previously been at a different table and changed tables while verbally saying that they were hoping that their move would result in hitting the Jackpot.
Apparently, the Jackpot winner's friends had to explain to him beforehand what a Bad Beat Jackpot was because he rarely plays Poker and that he should make sure not to discuss the Jackpot while any hand was in play or else it could disqualify the hand. When he lost with the four 6's, he didn't know right away that he had just won $180,000.
The player with the four 10's won $90,000 and the other eight players at the table each won $11,000.
The dealer was a young woman named Megan. I heard she was tipped a few thousand dollars, although I would hope that she got more than that. She had been dealing already a few hours before I left at midnight.
The winning hand was the last hand that Megan was scheduled to deal at table # 418, and maybe even the last hand of her entire shift, because the next dealer was already standing behind her ready to relieve her.
I haven't heard what particular seats received the two quad hands. Also, I'm wondering how long the other winning players had been at the Jackpot table when it was hit. Hopefully, some of the nice group of players who were there with me at midnight stayed another six hours and shared in the Jackpot. If anybody happens to know, please post.
I had never played at Harrah's until a few weeks ago, but allow me to say that I have never met a better group of dealers anywhere. I wish the best of luck to each and every one of them.
Until next time.
Hey guys,
Some clarification on the Harrah's Bad Beat Jackpot win two nights ago. The kid that won is a 21-year old from Rutgers who had just lost playing 1/2NL and moved to the 2/4 Limit table right next to it. I think he said his name is Rich or Mitch, or maybe Mike, I really don't remember. He bought in for $60 and was down to his last $19 when the final hand happened. He's also a regular winning player at the Taj, as noted by a lot of people playing. The kid was talking earlier about being at The Water Club with his friends and drunk and just looking to have some fun (aka blow money/give us his money). He also said he was going to med school at umdnj, which is a nice story if true.
Everyone folded to the blinds, and the kid caught 66 on the sb. BB raised to 4, kid calls. Flop comes 6 6 10, turn comes a 10, and the river was a king with the kid going all in and the BB calling. The kid yells out 'quads,' the guy says 'what???' then someone yells bad beat, and the room starts going crazy.
The kid tipped the dealer $2000 while everyone else gave her a few hundred. He knew what the bad beat jackpot was but for some reason thought that the bbj was a straight flush losing to a higher straight flush.
Also, his two friends weren't at the table. He was by himself when it happened and his friends came later and stuck around while everything was being sorted. He was a real quiet kid and I don't recall anyone telling him what the bad beat jackpot was. In fact, he didn't say much of anything until the BBJ hit. Afterwards, he started playing Pokerface by Lady Gaga and started dancing. I felt really good for the guy
Here are the winnings breakdowns:
Kid: $180,000
Other Guy: $90,000
The Rest of us: $11.3k
I hope this clears everything up for you guys. Happy gambling.
